Hosting recommendations. $40 budget.
Hey! I'm trying to find a good VPS provider.
I have at least 30-50 players for this server. Using proxy and 2 Gamemodes (Survival & Boxpvp).
Budget of at least $40.
Searching for a VPS or Dedicated that has:
- Good software & hardware
- AntiDDoS
- not tooo hard to use.

Dedicated will get you the best performance, but you’ll need to set up dos prot or get someone who does it for you
Well, besides that, what provider would you recommend?
what location?
North america
It depends, but as Faultier said, a dedicated gives you the best performace per dollar (ofc you need some decent hardware not something older than my grandpa). Managing multiple servers is also more convinient if you have full access to your panel and even the entire system, not just some customer section. Dedicated server providers usally have poor or just non existent ddos protection, so if you go with one then you will have to figure that out. 40 bucks is not a lot, so first you should prob launch the server without added protection, then if attacks happen invest some of the income you got in that time period in some protection services. Also I advise you if you really want to run a good server to invest a bit more into it. Having some spare performance is always a good thing if you decide to start up a dev server or something.
I mean, bloom sells VPSs with ddos protection
https://bloom.host/vps/?plus
Bloom.Host
AMD Ryzen 9 Dedicated Virtual Private Servers
Bloom offers affordable dedicated Ryzen 3950X and 5950X Virtual Private Servers with an amazing network blend and DDoS protection included for free.
not sure if it's the best deal out there, but it's a deal
I'd recommend Hetzner personally, their VPS service is the cheapest/best I've had experience with
Server auction | Bid on servers and save
Be quick and save money: Top and cheap refurbished dedicated servers at Hetzner Server Auction
this isnt vps
also 0 ddos protection
What location?
North america
Just get external
Hosts charge a lot more if offering ddos protection and 99% of the time its very mid
Drop the ddos protection requirement, $40 wont get you anything capable, get external
Bloom's ddos protection is fine?
I do can get An external protection, thats good. But i need at least a minimal protection from the hosting side too
Yeah and look at their pricing
Hes not getting a dedicated for $40
Why?
Just hide your ip correctly
He quite legitimately can

That's lowkey bad
then send something better with dedicated resources
Im pretty sure he isn't running 50 players and 3 servers + a proxy on that
Hetzner?
A 5600 is $38 or smth
that's EU
he wanted NA
Idk i don't know about hosts
I only use datapacket
But a few years ago i had a 64gb 2x Xeon server for like $35 on dallas
On a random host, wasn't that bad though
I mean, ovh can get you this for $55, but that's probably about the best you'll get in america
https://eco.ovhcloud.com/en/soyoustart/sys-game-1/
OVHcloud
SYS-GAME-1
Doesn't have for USA either

I would buy from OVH bc they offer quite good vps (and extremely good ones), but they don't offer canada/northamerica locations for that kind of setup.
I don't know if ovh has any VPSs that are gaming focused
I was talking with some people that have VPS on bloom, they say it can hold up to 80 people with the performance+
I Think there is
North america locations are available from +$90, not for < $60
if this ever was in stock, then it would 1000% be worth it

Yeah, it was in stock a few months ago. I did purchase one of those but didnt pay it for external issues. It is worth it and thats why i was searching for some hosting that provide something like that
for what I've seen
- bloom
- $39 - 12GB (plus) 3950x
- $43 - 12GB (normal) 5950x
- pufferfish
- $48 - 12GB 9950x
- enviromc
- $32 - 16GB 7950x
- ByteBerry
- $40 - 16GB 5950x
- $36 - 8GB 7950x
- Pebblehost
- $40 - 16GB 5700x
- $42 - 12GB 7950x
@Unicz 🐣 ^^
tried to keep it as close to $40 as I could
pufferfish also gives you access to pufferfish+, which is a special fork of paper with better performance. Never used it, so I can't comment on it's performance
pufferfish+ is amazing, but for 100+ players imo
tbf, "free" is still free
by far the best CPU out of all of them on the list
although enviro does seem to be the best deal overall
its a 9950x now (On most nodes), we are updating the cpus
plus is 5950x / 9950x :extraworried:
Normal is 3950x
Oh, I went based on what's on the website
Yeah the website isnt updated as that would be lying on specs, rn most nodes are getting upgrades (free)
Was announced on discord
bloom is upgrading to 9950x atm, some nodes are already
oh
didnt see below
Can 3 vcores handle 50 players and 3 game instnaces + a proxy?
Yeah
as its 3 vcores Per server
No
wym No
Hes buying a vps
$40
3 cores total
.
ok Why does he need a vps?
Idk
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Unicz 🐣 what do you need a vps for. vs a game host panel
$40 wouldn't get him much on panel either
Not just on bloom. Other hosts have pretty good deals for $40
He wants ddos protection for some reason
Im telling him any capable ddos protection on the hoster side will raise pricing by quite a lot
yeah most game panels are under ddos prot
Most are crappy ones though
Rip
Ik blooms isnt 🙂
Yeah but the price wont work for him lol
:pepe_shrug:
Yall still have magic transit for prefilter/volumetric right?
Certain nodes yes
on the magic side
No like overall
Can you switch it on?
Not sure overall :extraworried:
Still new to their system
If an attack gets big enough to saturate in house
Ah alr
Yeah, was accepted almost 3 weeks ago :yeahyupyupyepyepyupmhmyeah:
So still learning the internals, but what I know is we can make it more intense protection or more lighter based on whats happening
In house is 1tbps no matter what though
Also idk about the packet/s capacity
Its the trend nowadats
Instead of bandwidth they go for pps
:pepe_shrug: thats info idk
I mean Idk the differences. I thought (as some people said to me) VPS are greater than a host panel.
No, its more Expensive not greater
Sometimes vps's are worse as they arent "Gaming" Vps
worse performance etc, vps are not really a recommended choice for most
mainly enterprise vps's where is a big ol Xeon or Epyc cpu for not gaming related stuff
Game panel would be recc for you vs vps and or dedicated
cheaper + more related to what you want
Oh, welp, thats my bad then. Idk much about what Can and cant get for a Minecraft server
Yeah I see that now
thats why you ask here :yeahyupyupyepyepyupmhmyeah: which you did so ggs
we will lyk then
can you change the title to
Hosting recommendations. Budget $40
Sure
If u don't know Linux or can't afford sysasmins don't rlly get a vps
Still $40 is a very small budget
it is for the playercount
but its doable
With big sacrifices
i mean you want 50 concurrent ofc youd need to sacrifice
Either drop the ddos prot, try to manage with tcpshields free plan, or go w bloom or similar and accept that the server wont be at 20tps when peak hours
yeah ur very right on that one ngl
something is possible at least
Blooms l7 filters have like actual antibot filtering right?
1 seco
Yes we do have antibot filtering
Like not basic invalid handshake/motd spam stuff but something thst could filter mcstorm
In-line?
explain what that one means :extraworried:
If it runs the checks before connecting to the server
Like rejoin checks
Kicks suspicious bot and asks to ping/rejoin or etc
Out of line its like an espectator
It fowards the connection to the server until it detects its a bot then kicks it
Yeah we have filtering for ping blocking pretty sure 👀
These are questions that are going way above what i know at times lol
Yeah basic stuff not hard to implement on l4/xdp
But if he "requires" ddos protection it means he may have been attacked before, and under peak hours with those 3 logical cores it only takes a small l7 flood to crash the entire thing
That's why im asking
Gotcha
Not true
And why it's happening on bloom?
Because 3 cores are not gonna handle 70 players
...
Do you know anything about ddos attacks?
Ofc I do
50/50
With 1 instance it may be okay
Alright, how do amplification attacks work?
Ip spoofing
oh wait your not op right
its 3 instances and a proxy
no way
Then agreed
?
i thought u were the same guy that made the thread
talking about knowing about ddos attacks
still, competent DDoS protection raises prices on hosts
basically only bloom rn cuz everyone else pretty much is on path
I don't really like Pathnet, so I'm on Dataforest and Stormwall
yeah im saying only bloom rn out of the mc host's has competent DDoS protection
What are they using?
Path's actual mitigation is solid but that isnt relevant when the network shits itself anyways
in-house
dataforest is pretty much just volumetric though isnt it?
also i cant recommend stormwall
a lot of people take down their entire network for fun
they dont have enough capacity
and its expensive asf
True, but not my choice. Moving to in-house for that loc
It's not
isnt that just gonna make it worse?
idk, havent heard much from them
Ah its just resold g-core
oof

Why do you think so
?
because u cant afford 2.5tbps+ worth of uplinks
dataforest's upstreams, basically resold gcore and some other T2... not great
Still better than Datapacket based solutions
Fiord 200gbps
200gbps is nothing unless you have volumetric protections
Duh, datapacket is not a ddos protection provider... its gonna leak thats why you code your own stuff
Network wise is so great though
even tho u get a few small leaks

Yeah, 130gbps... Small...
Not rlly, is cosmicguard trash?
Definetly
Across 10 pops and multiple ips could be small
Why so?
Agree
Only has 2 upstreams so routes will suck
Everything just works bad
Overall protection leaks quite a bit (10-20gbps)
Support is also trash
And you can deny all new incoming TCP connections with a small stateful flood ( ~1k ip/s )
They are working very well for us :idk:

GTT is decent but NTT is lowkey kind of mid
If you are not big enough to get non-basic floods and your customerbase is europe centric it will be fine
One time I've received 3tbps attack that killed whole neoprotect
We just switched to it, largest ddos was 220mibps
lmao
even if it leaked completely that wont do anything to a 1vCore machine
no wonder why its "working fine" for you
idk i think their capacity may be a little misleading
i also saw someone kill one of their ranges with only about 100gbps
Like 3tbps on the edge (datapacket)
they claimed it was just mitigation dropping traffic but eh
Idk how much was leaking
Yeah yeah
they claim 1tbps
but it may be across all ranges
I'm never using Neo again
valid
