Jeans Fit

Levi’s 501s in 38/30 seen below. They’re too big in the waist, but had to size up to get something that felt like it fit in the thighs. Fiancé pointed out the crotch/butt looked baggy, which I felt too & I’m guessing is a product of sizing up in the waist, but wasn’t sure if that was a product of me always having worn athletic fit jeans in the past + our perception. Could anyone provide thoughts on fit here & would just getting these taken in at the waist improve the look of the extra fabric in the crotch?

I’m not really seeing a ton of extra fabric in the crotch or butt. If you’re used to slimmer cuts it might seem baggier by comparison If it’s too loose in the waist, a belt may be enough to fix that. You may want to get the waist taken in if the waistband bunches up or folds over itself with a belt on You could try the 505s instead of sizing up the 501s. IIRC they are similar to the 501s with more room in the thighs

Modern levi’s generally look a bit odd on the butt because if the way the pockets are. 505s are a good shout

The 501 ‘93 cut is also an option. Those are the jeans I started with when I wanted to move away from slim fit They have more room in the seat and thigh. They are part of the Levi’s premium line and are usually only sold in mainline Levi’s stores (as opposed to Levi’s Outlets)

If they're staying up without a belt, the waist isn't too big These look fine to me overall
