Does running
lsusb
show the octopus connected?
i dont think so
Try different USB cables, try different USB ports, but it might be dead
oh!
have you tried flashing via sd card?
i have it did not work, got a cord that is working:

trying to reflash now
same error:

What about flashing via sd card "did not work"? Did you format the sd card correctly, did you load the firmware file with the correct name?
did it not change to the correct name after putting the sd card in?
odd now im getting Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).

so i restarted the pi
should something happen after i click check board status?

After you saved the file to the sd card, you put it in the octopus right?
Yep

and then you power cycled the octopus?
i did but no lights change when i hit the reset and should i put the cap on the boot pins?

i don't know about the jumper, sorry. I never had to mess with that as far as I can remember
After power cycling, and you take the sd card out and put it back in your computer, what is the filename?
same , looks like it was not even modified

then it didn't flash 😦
odd ok will try the cycle again
it should change to
firmware.cur
Any luck?nope taking it from the top and gain today hopping aa clean install helps also ordered a new data cable
im thinking the restart button is not working on the board shoudl the lights turn off when hit?
I would unplug the power and replug it back in. I didn't even know there was a reset button to press
Try reloading your DFU bootloader - went through the same issues you're seeing. Be SURE to follow the RatOS install/update instructions after you get the board recognized. https://github.com/bigtreetech/BIGTREETECH-OCTOPUS-V1.0/blob/master/Firmware/DFU%20Update%20bootloader/Octopus-DFU%20Update%20bootloader%20-%20en.pdf
