Help with Converting Dash Scatter Nodes to Instance Foliage

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m in the process of converting my Dash scatter nodes into Instance foliage nodes. However, I’ve noticed that Unreal crashes when I try to convert larger/heavier scatter nodes. I’m doing this because the person taking over the project doesn’t have Dash, and I figured converting to Instance foliage would let them move things around if needed. Does anyone have advice on how to prevent the crashes? Alternatively, could I leave the Dash nodes as they are, delete my referenced assets in the scene, and still have everything appear in the level as it should? Thanks!

Hey! @Kenzart 🙂 Can you send the crash log and crash files for that?https://discord.com/channels/826908885024636989/1151414435722821672/1151414435722821672 It works fine for me so curious on the crash! Regarding an alternative, yes you can leave everything as is. The scatter result is normal HISMs so still viewable and moveable etc for the other person, but if they don't have Dash they can't of course change the Dash settings only. So ye you can delete the reference assets if you want, and that will break the tool connection, so then you can't either edit the scatters anymore! 🙂

Hi Daniel! Apologies for the very delayed response - got crazy busy 🙏 I think I figured out why it was crashing - It is when Dash is converting my referenced Static Meshes into Static Mesh Foliage and I think one or two of those static meshes are buggy and cause Unreal to crash, the rest converts fine, very strange but glad I figured it out. What I ended up doing is leaving everything as is since after testing with on another PC without Dash I realised everything appears fine - just isnt editable as you explained above ✨ Thanks so much for always taking the time to respond to all the queries! Super appreciative 🫶

I am setdressing scenes set in a world with great expanses of nothingness apart from rocks, pebbles, and all kinds of very short and multicolored turf/ grass, it is for a long format project and I will make sure to share on here when it comes out -for now I can't say much more. All I can say though is that Dash has been incredibly useful and sped up the process immensely ! 🫶
