Does it make any sense to wear ties?

So... get this, I am an art school student studying game design, which doesn't require any formal attire. I also do volunteering work, which, again, doesn't require formal attire. I don't have any real requirements to wear ties and yet I have tried to incorporate them into my outfits in the past. What got me to try out ties was an Instagram video featuring someone in a tie tucked under a v-neck sweater. But does it make any sense for me to try and wear a tie?

the answer is within yourself. do you like how ties look? if yes, you should wear them. I think I'm the only person in my friend group and workplace that I have seen wear ties, but I wear them semi-frequently because I like how they look.

I wore a tie recently for the first time (not including suit occasions like weddings, and funerals) I thought it looked good and I’ll do it again even though I’m the only person at my work in one. It’s nice to have the option to do it or not

the only person it has to make sense for is you (unless you're going to a place that explicitly forbids ties)
I don't have any real requirements to wear ties and yet I have tried to incorporate them into my outfits in the past.
i'm also not seeing any real requirements to not wear ties. what happened when you tried to incorporate them in the past? if it was a good experience, then keep wearing them (as it was a good experience)

Ties are in again! But yes as others say do it if you want to, you don’t have to in casual situations

if it was a bad experience, then it's worth reflecting on why (was it physically painful, did you feel out of place, etc) especially since you still seem to want to wear a tie

Try it out! If you like it then keep doing it and if you don’t, you don’t have to

It didn't really work as it was a shiny tie that wasn't that well visible. i then tried a patterned tie coupled with a patterned shirt and then i got told by my mom that the combo doesn't work lmao so yeah, i've not really been able to make them work yet

if you like the way a tie looks, or your inspo has a lot of people wearing ties, it's worth it to keep trying and ask us for feedback! don't be discouraged yet :)

Sometimes ties can look strange without something over top, when it's just a tie and a collared shirt. Loke you posted earlier, under a v neck sweater that's cut to wear over a tie is a good option. Cardigans are another solid option, and of course blazers/suit jackets. I've always found odd vests a difficult look to pull off, but it can be done, or you could opt for a v neck sweater vest as well. There are a myriad of options, and ties can be extremely fun and a great way to inject personality and color into your wardrobe If you're wearing a patterned tie with a patterned shirt, sometimes the top layer like a v neck sweater makes it work when it might not otherwise by giving the eye a nice block to rest at and allowing only enough of the patterned shirt/tie to show.
