(meta comment: I think this puts more crit on Lively than Baldoni for the problem, given how much we know about the latter being a dickhead now, but the core thesis is about the costuming rather than the people who made it)

i mean i agree tho like without watching yet, because i will when i’m at home, i absolutely agree that fumbling costuming will fumble the project the mean girls remake suffered from missing the point in the design of the plastics’ wardrobes - it was all clothes so far removed from what high schoolers would normally wear because the plastics adhere to the barbie-style picturesque femme look. the point was that they were so pretty and so (visibly) mature and so fake, so the remake dressing the cast off of insta/tik tok shopping brands kind of missed the whole ass point

feel like the narrator in this show is hyping up "it ends with us" a little too much. "in the book, lily bloom didn't have her clothes described much to indicate that she was a natural beauty who didn't care about clothes" -> I really just think colleen hoover isn't a very good writer so that's part of it "adaptations should not remake characters" -> I disagree with this then she spends some time criticizing blake lively's decision to step into a more directorial role which doesn't have anything to do with the actual movie/costume design. at the same time I do think blake lively's costume design choices were not good for the story, and that she's untalented, but this is well trodden ground P.S. you can skip the first 5 minutes if you know anything about costume design, it is a very basic rundown
