Is there a config setting to enable custom block LODs
I have made a few custom blocks with MCCreator as tests and when I go out of render distance they do not generate any LOD at all they are invisible

i got them visible but the texture is all white
DH just takes the average color of the top and is also able to do that for custom blocks, so there must be something in the way you made those custom blocks that is not standard
