Fell in love with burgundy loafers, thoughts?
Hello,
I was going at Finsbury's for a friend who is new to dressing up and saw a beautiful pair of burgundy loafers.
I also have a shop in my city that sells higher end shoes(santoni, CJ, Berluti) and they also have a beautiful pair.
The difference is the price, 245 for the finsburys, 825 euros for the CJs..
What do you guys think? I wonder if the quality is that different. CJs are goodyear + 'hand level' and Finsburys are blake.
Pics 1-3 are Finsburys, 4-6 Crockett&Jones.
Just curious about your opinion.

the leather grain on the Fins doesn't look as tight and are already creasing badly - looks like some sort of plasticy finish. the grain on CJs looks tight and creasing looks natural
imo its not worth the 3.3x in price but maybe you can find better leathers in the 2-300 range
I think the Fins look a little more modern and maybe better overall. But yeah I don't know about that.
Should I ask for another pair in my size?
The first pair appears to be using a corrected grain leather to me. I don’t think they will age that well
Whats a corrected grain?
To be honest I prefer the finsbury ones regarding how they look. Its also a lot cheaper
But im really curious about what you guys mean.

It says corrected leather yes. They seem to say it improves durability
Finsbury Shoes
OSCAR Burgundy Loafer
The Oscar Loafer from Finsbury Shoes combines London style and modernity with shiny leather, a hybrid sole, and burgundy calfskin lining, available in September.
Lol yeah internet seems to say corrected leather is quite worse
I think they’re talking about the Blake stitch construction in that phrase.
Corrected grain isn’t inherently bad but these types with high-shine and other characteristics make me think of bad examples of it rather than good. They just tend to not age that well over time and don’t respond the same way to regular upkeep that the nicer calf leather from C&J will.
It is a big price different tho I agree. I didn’t realize c&j were that expensive these days
Oh are the c&j “hand grade” those are decently more expensive then the regular line
Yeah they are, thats why they are more expensive apparently
But its the only ones they have in burgundy I believe..
The finsbury ones have soles too. Don't need to add them later
But yeah, I definitely don't want the 'back pleat'(?) to show a lot, that wouldn't be good
Hmm not sure what you mean by back pleat?
If you love the burgundy I’d be convinced just go with the pair that fits best. Having a pair of loafers that fits well and is comfortable is better than any hemming and hawing about quality
They both fit well I think
I tried looking for the english translation. For 'back pleat' i meant this

Apparently those will appear more easily and show more on corrected leather?
oh the creasing?
Any leather shoe is going to crease. But I trust C&J's calf to look better over time with the creasing
Yeah
Youre probably right. But yeah so far I prefer the shape and look of the finbsurys, so since they are 600 euros cheaper..
