Is 32gb of Ram worth it?
Hello! I am trying to upgrade my gaming PC with adding another 2 sticks of ram, I want to keep my tabs open while in-game, but I keep reading subreddits and it depends on my CPU and motherboard. And I got confused. I plan on buying another set of Corsair DDR4 CL16 3200mhz (the same set as I have [with same timings 16-18-18-36]).
Current PC specs:
Ryzen 7 5800 (non-x)
16gb 3200mhz [16-18-18-36] (2 8gig sticks)
MSI tomahawk b450 Max
Rtx 3070 ftw3 ultra
600w 80+ bronze PSU

Look at the motherboard detail page and see if you have 4 ram slots and the capacity limit should be 64gb or more etc
But yes buy the same exact ram sticks or buy a 2 16gb kit if you wanted an upgrade. Your choice
It does have 4 ram slots, max memory 128gb, memory channel: dual channel.
2 already occupied, other 2 are open.
But, I heard something about running at lower speed if I’m doing 4 ram sticks
There is a chance both kits cannot get to the advertised speed correct
So it will go to the lowest speed like 2133 or 2400 etc for boot up purposes. Then you start to increase mhz or load the memory profile etc.
The problem with this is if you don't get the same exact ram as your current one or if its sold out etc
So if you cant find the extra 2 sticks or that model is sold out. You can just buy a different 2 16gb kit for 32gb instead
So overall, if I get the exact same ram sticks with same speeds, CL timings, the 16-18-18-36 thingy. I should be fine and still able to run the advertised speeds
Correct
Worst case you got a bad batch of ram and it won't do the advertised speeds as your current set
