Hyper-V not available for Windows 11 Home

I am attempting to set up WSL to proceed with Wasp but after a bit of research, it seems like Hyper-V is not available for Windows 11 Home. I get this error when I try to run the first command for installing WSL. Is there another way to run WSL and use Wasp for Windows? Any help is much appreciated!

Hi @tavo. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base. ---------------------- Based on the knowledge sources provided, I can offer some guidance on using Wasp with Windows 11 Home and WSL. While Hyper-V is indeed not available for Windows 11 Home, you can still use WSL 2 which is the recommended way to run Wasp on Windows. Here are some key points and suggestions: 1. Windows 11 Home can run WSL 2 backend, even without Hyper-V. This is mentioned in the Discord conversation where a community member states: "(Windows home can only run the WSL 2 backend)..?" Discord support thread 2. If you're encountering issues with WSL installation, you might want to follow the step-by-step guide provided by Wasp for setting up WSL: Guide: Windows Development with Wasp & WSL 3. If you're still having trouble, you might need to enable the "Virtual Machine Platform" feature in Windows. This can sometimes be done even without Hyper-V on Windows Home editions. 4. As a last resort, if you can't get WSL working, you might consider upgrading to Windows 11 Pro. However, this should not be necessary for most users as WSL 2 should work on Windows Home. 5. Once you have WSL set up, make sure to follow the Linux instructions for installing Wasp within your WSL environment. Important note: When using WSL2 with Wasp, ensure that your Wasp project is on the Linux file system, not the Windows file system. This is crucial for file change detection to work properly. Wasp Docs If you continue to face issues, I recommend reaching out to the Wasp community on their Discord channel where you can get more specific help for your setup. ---------------------- Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon: ---------------------- Sorry @tavo, I seem to be having a bit of trouble. Don't worry though, I've pinged my support and they will try to fix me up! :technologist: Perhaps try again in 15mins?

Sadly, yes. Windows 11 Home Edition does not support enabling Hyper-V at all, meaning you can't use it to run WSL/Wasp with that version of OS. You can upgrade to Pro though - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-windows-home-to-windows-pro-ef34d520-e73f-3198-c525-d1a218cc2818
