Sam, I have thoughts on this but I'd be interested to hear your take on what's different between yours and the inspo, and whether that works.
The obvious differences I can see is that his shirt is more loose and he's got a baseball cap on.
He's also got cream trousers which I don't have in that photo.
But yeah, he's got more loose clothing and it makes it work better in the example photo.
what are your thoughts on this? :linkThink:
The cap and untucked shirt is definitely part of it.
I actually think the big thing that makes your outfit not capture this is your jumper. His is a big, chunky, loose knit with raglan shoulders that make it look rounder and slouchier. Yours is a fine knit that you might expect to see someone wear over a shirt and tie to the office. The set in sleeves also gives it a squarer look.
Yours feels like it would be more "I work in an estate agent in a small British town" appropriate, whereas the inspo looks a bit more casual, relaxed and sloppy - would probably work at a design firm in London.
I think another thing is the material of the pieces. Your shirt looks like a thinner and stiffer material while the inspo shirt looks thicker and softer (in terms of retaining structure), maybe flannel or similar. Your sweater also looks thinner than his
Ok

i'm starting to notice those differences.
one other difference is in the shirt tails extending under the sweater - his are more pronounced, appearing like he left them undone deliberately, whereas the peek of yours under your sweater looks more accidental
the question is whether you like that effect or not; not everyone does, because it can read as sloppy, and if you don't that's something to factor in
not really
that's something to keep in mind
what do you think of your fit in a vacuum, ignoring the inspirstion for a second?
it's not the best one i've done for sure :/
it's just kinda.... meh
ya i think the silhouette makes it read a bit more formal which im not sure meshes as intended with the converse
it's not a bad fit mind you
i think just vibe-wise it doesn't feel necessarily the same. that being said it can be a tricky jump initially to start incorporating slouchier things into your wardrobe and style
Ok
ok, so in short, for this i should go for something looser and baggier? 🤔
I think if you’re looking to be closer to the inspo I think that’s the next step. Look especially in the inspo at the extra volume in the sleeves and extra fabric around the waist, so much so that it can be kinda folded in or over.
Doesn’t even have to be baggy necessarily, just a bit slouchier and wider.
