HDMI/DISPLAY black screens frequently

I've been having screen connectivity issues. The screen goes black and turns back on every few seconds. I'm not sure what it is but moving my mouse and keyboard does cause it to happen at higher intervals. Configuration: Desktop AMD GPU Gnome Steam UI Specs: 6700xt 5 5600x 32gb cl16 360mhz I'll try out the other configurations to see if that fixes anything although I'd prefer to use GNOME since many people say it's simple and stable.

Are you using HDMI or Displayport?

HDMI 2.1 or whatever gives me 165hz as opposed to the other HDMI ports that only go to 144hz

You do not have HDMI 2.1 It does not support Linux and never will that's your issue, can you use Displayport instead? if not you need to get a displayport -> HDMI active adapter

Lowering the refresh rate in settings could be a nice temporary solution

I began having a similar problem recently - i was always using the DP on my GPU, but the screen would just go black after a games loading screen; game would be running, but could only be seen in background (i.e. alt-tab to any other open window, game is running behind it). dropping display refresh rate from 165 -> 120 appears to solve issue for now

Thank you all for the info, I'll try each possible fix. I ordered a DP cable and I'll try dropping to 120z to set it it's a temporary fix.

Do you have VRR (variable refresh rate) enabled? If so, disable it and try again. I have the same problems every time I try to use it (Gnome and KDE). Maybe it's the reason for your problems.

I'll test it out right now It worked! Well setting to 120hz and removing VRR worked so thank you everyone
