Where can I learn more about the fabrics? Wool, cashmere etc

Hey guys As im slowly digging deeper in this topic, I would like to understand the different types of fabrics, I know there are several types of wool and cashmeres or silk I'd like to know the differences, which is better(if) and why etc, so I can understand the products I am looking at better. Thanks šŸ™‚

Well, this is a very broad topic. Maybe a book would help with basics (Textilepedia, but you can find many others), then I would suggest to deepen the research fabric by fabric, Google as a starting point.

There's probably a better dedicated source somewhere, but I've learned almost everything I know about fabrics from Home Comforts by Cheryl Mendelson. It's a book about home care in general and then has a section on fabrics in general that includes clothes, bedsheets, rags, etc. However that fabric section is almost 200 pages long and covers everything from fabrics to different weaves to care instructions and more.

Iā€™d approach this from a specific POV. Like are you interested in knits or fabrics? Suiting? Shirts?

i think there's an articles of interest episode on fabrics on general otherwise as beans has said i'd figure out the specific item you're looking for; a wool sweater will be different from a wool suit, for example.

Okay interesting, thank you! Its mostly regarding coats,suits and knitted tops.
