Cowboy Boots

Following my post about sizing, I've cracked that part but was wanting opinions between these two boots. One is a Ferrini Handcrafted in Mexico and the other is Ariat Heritage boot, see attached images. Ferrini ones are square toe and Ariats are R toe. Open to other suggestions around £125-175, and lightly used is okay too. Size 10/10.5 depending on boot.

Would be wearing these casually rather than in a work sense

Toe shape, colour etc are all going to be personal preference to be honest Assuming secondhand you could also look for any Tecovas on the secondhand market

Frustratingly I have little frame of reference haha. I can’t seem to find any used tecovas on ebay or anything. Leaning towards the pair on the right As far as new Ariats and Ferrini go in comparison to other brands any ideas? To my understanding Ariats are made in china?

I may not be able to explain this right but i’ll try my best. In the western fashion niche there are a few genres, the more fashion forward and less cowboy tends to favor more classic styled boots which will typically be black/brown/suede and will feature a round, snip or point toe. These will he your tecovas, lucchese, heritage styles. The other is a more modern western fashion that favors a square or semi square toe. So depending on the look you are trying to achieve will depend on the boot you should get

Here are a couple examples of what i mean. The left is kind of the current “cowboy” look that you’ll see around the US among people who work ranches, rodeos, etc. larger hats, starched and creased denim with heavy stacking, and a big square toe boot. In the right is Charley crockett, a western musician who opts for a more classic western look, smaller hat with a more swept up brim, less stacked denim and a point toe boot

Ariat is basically a working class boot, its going to offer more of the modern styling and is well loved among people in the cowboy lifestyle mostly for comfort and functionality reasons. I personally do not find square toe boots to be very fashionable and it will be kind of hard to incorporate them into a wider array of outfits beyond whats featured in the left photo Imo from a fashion sense i find the more older styling of boots to look better and work in a wider range of outfits

If you are really down to these two boots specifically id opt for the ariat round toes since they are more versatile imo

Thanks for the explanation and reference pics, super useful seeing them on a person and not just pictures haha. I tend to lean more into vintage so will have a bit of a further dig into round toes at the slightly higher end of my price range. Rocking those boots there dude!

Don't know where you are in the UK but if possible you might be best trying to visit Hey Cowboy in London to be able to try some secondhand boots on in person

Honestly man if I could’ve gotten to there I for sure would’ve, but I’m at the far end of the country haha. I’m thinking about popping down to sheffield to the cowboy boot store there

majority of the time i’m in newcastle so equally hard haha. we’ve got a decent american clothing store and im gonna pop in and ask if there’s anywhere they’d recommend when im in town tomorrow I’m leaning more towards the Ferrini ones because they’re so different to stuff i’ve already got, at least compared to my thursday caps which get the most wear these days

Square toe can work well in the right outfit, gimme a sec to find some examples https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1323266364194033876 https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1310295678580428912 https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1281293641586966642 But I would agree with what Digs said above about round toe boots being more versatile and easier to find into outfits

Thank you all for the help! I’ve went for the ferrini as most of my western wear is a bit more modern, and figure they definitely won’t be the only ones I buy haha Mmm Ferini’s came today and were a bit big, and i didn’t really like the square toe, so sent them back, decided to try the round toes
