BetterMC Server Jar

Hey! We are expanding our network in the new year and are opening up a BetterMC server. I had a few questions from anyone with experience; The pack is running 1.20.4. Are we best off to use Arclight, NeoForge, Forge, or Fabric? Secondly, are any Fabric Mods compatible with Forge or NeoForge, and vice versa? Or are they all running as their own thing? Thirdly; Ideally the goal is use plugins and mods at the same time. Hence the initial being Arclight. Just trying to see what other options we have.

Don't use Arclight. Use Fabric. Don't try to run plugins too.

We lose so many features though if we don’t. As well as the forge is the more popular modpack. .

Every single person here will suggest against it And Fabric is far mor performant than Forge

Simplest way to explain it, nor bukkit nor fabric/forge were built with compatibility in mind So those projects tend to be extremely clunky the complex the setup gets I like to see value in every technology, so I feel that their place could be for small projects like a friends smp which usually doesn’t last very long For a network, you might want to find alternatives implemented as mods, luckperms and spark have a fabric version for example

There are certain fabric mods that have ports to (neo)forge, but not all do. It's the responsibility of the mod author to make a forge/fabric port of their mod

Not all forge/fabric mods will respect what plugins try to do. For example, in older versions, there were a lot of ways to get around restrictions from [admin] claim plugins like WorldGuard. It's better in modern versions, but you should still check if it's possible to grief spawn with mods. (this goes for any plugin's mechanic, and isn't specific to claims though) If you want to use plugins, go for it, but don't expect for everything to work perfectly together along with arclight, there's also magma and mhoist. However, arclight is typically the most stable
