What's your favorite jacket?
Looking for something in the $300-500 range, but also just curious as to what your favorite is. I hear Barbour is good, any thoughts?

I mean it really depends on your chosen aesthetic etc
I personally really enjoy my aero leather highwayman jacket, but thats only in that pricerange when you buy secondhand.
this one.
Sick jacket
I suppose there's many different types. Mostly just trying to get inspo
my favorite jacket is this 1920s French moleskin work jacket; it was about $1200 and just sold recently
my favorite jacket that i own is probably this vintage denim woolrich jacket; it usually is lined and is rather warm, it's big enough to layer under, can take some abuse and it's easy to wear
barbour is broadly considered "good", though it's worth checking the individual types (bedale vs beaufort vs ashby, etc) and #waywt because plenty of people wear one
Story MFG Tellus jacket is definitely my favorite right now. Quilted liners in general are sick
I recently bought this bomber jacket from Theory. I also bought a ralph lauren leather jacket (cafe racer?) a long time ago. I've enjoyed both of them.
fav jacket i have is probably between my motiv mfg aviator jacket and my rainbow country hercules
both far out of price range thuogh
within price range is probably my brown moleskin motiv mfg rapide jacket
What’s hilarious is I thought $500 was a reasonable upper bound for a nice jacket. Clearly I’m not yet familiar with price tags when it comes to fashion
i think its just how into it you want to get
500 is a good upper bound for lots of common stylings with pretty good construction/fabric
but as you get more into niche small makers, high end fabrics, and specific designs it can get much more expensive
functionally though the more expensive stuff isn't necessarily any better, its just about aesthetic and preferences
Honestly, 300-500 was hard for me, because most of my jackets are thrifted, with the retail price often exceeding the upper bound and the actual price i paid usually being below it.
there's a small number of clothing items i've spent over $500 (now over $100 these days) on; being willing to shop secondhand and wait for deals helps considerably
@vessel ymmv but these two jackets have been putting in some serious mileage this fall/winter for me. Shearling is always a safe bet for cozy (but also cool) factor. The fringe is vintage and imo you can find a ton of really nicely worn in suede for pretty cheap, especially in more out there styles. If you hate the fringe it’s pretty easy to cut it off
