are any other mods needed to get DH to work
with DH 1.21.4, and im on a mac, and idk, are only distant horizons and fabric api needed for distant horizons to work? or do those other mods like sodium and others are needed?
im playing without any shaders, also the dh options button doesnt show up, as well as lod chunks not showing, or perhaps is this a problem with the 1.21.4 nightly build, and is there a more stable version?

Only DH is needed. And no, there are only nightly builds for 1.21.4, however your issue isn't known to exist in the nightly builds.
It seems like DH isn't being loaded at all. Can you send the logs?

You should send your
latest.log file to provide additional useful information.
Logs are usually located in the .minecraft/logs directory.
On Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\logs
On Linux: ~/.minecraft/logs
On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/logs
Please upload the file to mclo.gs instead of sending the raw file. This makes reading the contents of the file a lot easier and improves the chances of you getting the help needed.

its not loading because there are no jar files to load
unzip the zip, take out the jar, and put it in your mods folder
