that budget is for sure reasonable esspecialy if you are willing to go secondhand it will open up options, any pictures of parkas or fits with them you like?

Is that within budget Also why are you against secondhand You’re not getting anything “for life” new for $200 btw

FWIW Alpha does appear to be the OEM for the N-3B So you could buy the black from them for $250 Never tried an N-3B but now I kinda want to I think the difference between consumer grade Alpha and military grade is consumer is probably made abroad and military is made in the states

Tbh i dont know much about the nuances of alpha industries. I dunno how their DoD contract vs civilian stuff is different quality wise Id imagine its all pretty good tho

Tbh it seems like a lot of effort to cost down the civvie versions Especially when military grade is already code for lowest bidder if anything civvie quality might be slightly better bc you actually have to do warranty and CS on it If a military jacket is kind of shit the poor enlisted fucker that gets stuck with it will just curse out the military and go on with their day

Depends on the era alot tbh Vietnam and earlier i would say had great quality and qc across the board As far as modern stuff my experience is mostly limited to what i was issued when i was in the marine corps and i found all the issued garments to be of great quality

all things considered i think if you were looking to procure and N3-B i would first look for vintage milsurp, earlier the better. But an alpha industries would should he more than satisfactory

this doesn’t look too bad It’s simple No fur on the hood Tbh I’d stick to N-3B milsurp if you can find black

After reading up, OP i would not necessarily be shy of a secondhand item like this. You may have to do some digging but this is a special use case item that would not have necessarily been worn super often. You could probably find a second hand one in like new condition for a good price

Ive had an Alpha n3b for well over a decade now, super solid jacket (just dont be silly and get the slim fit ones they look terrible)

Honestly bro just wait for Jan sale for Patagonia and get a parka from them Jesus Christ I sound like a Patagonia shill But they’re legit one of the best value brands imo They usually have a 30-50% sale site wide mid January

downside, theyre nothing like what op wants in terms of looks

Honestly, if you want a basic black parka for $200 and your priority is staying warm rather than being super fashionable, look at Columbia, Lands End, etc. The one in your example is from LL Bean, which is good too. I have the Baxter State and it's totally decent, but a bit over your price cap, and Bean rarely goes on sale.

lands end has a sale rn good call out

I used to have a Uniqlo parka that was insanely warm. Probably fits your budget.

@bruh! - look at Eddie Bauer Down Parka, on sale. Or North Face McMurdo - again on sale - could be slightly over your budget
