So! I am looking to create an anarchy server, and have already decided on using the Pufferfish server software. This is a continuation of a discussion from #general. In here, plugins, anticheats, and actually hosting the server will be discussed.

It would be Vanilla. I want dupe protection, and an extremely basic anticheat (No infinite reach, that kind of thing.)
and I doubt anyone is getting 150+ players tryna lag the server at the same time to really reap the benefits of folia
folia is designed for playerbases spread far out

That kind of playercount for anarchy would be ideal for folia
that'd prolly work for your cases
No cheat plus is what most anarchy servers use for this case

UNCP is much too strict for my needs. I want to give the players as much freedom as possible without fully breaking the game.

try puffer but without very performant hardware and good optimisations, 150 wonโt be easy especially for anarchy imo

Universe would definitely be a good shout, the base ver which is either 60 or 70 usd one time should be fine.
Probably better than paying for a machine with more cores so you can run folia, but itโs up to you atp
folia isnโt completely stable and many plugins donโt support it
(itโs mostly stable enough to run in production, e.g. 2b2t)

People tend to go extremely far on anarchy servers, the most you have pregen the better

if you're gonna run an anarchy server that you predict to reach big playercounts, grab a r9 5000 or newer dedi/vds with like 32-64gb ram
32-64 is probably overkill
nobody sells r9 vds with less than 32 nowadays
tbh you'd do fine with 16
but like nobody gna sell all the cores and no ram
hosting providers w/ dedicated cores or threads
I've never seen a hosting provider be willing to give you 16 cores for folia
and only buy 16gb ram
40 players youโre looking at maybe 14-16gb usage, maybe 18 at a push
600 player servers only use 24-30

well youโre looking for a cpu with a good single thread (see cpubenchmark, you want a cpu with a single thread of preferably 3.3k MOps/sec or higher). GHz or multi thread is irrelevant
You can get decent CPUs of the likes of eBay if you want second hand, microcenter if available etc
You can purchase universe once your server is open to public

If there are not many plugins and you don't care about lag during testing, you technically can
Haven't used a pi myself, but considering the reason why those were built-for I think it'll barely be able to host the server if at all
