CNAME partial setup for root domain

Hello https://developers.cloudflare.com/dns/zone-setups/partial-setup/ What if I want to serve content at example.com not www.example.com How would I add the record?

A partial (CNAME) setup allows you to use Cloudflare's reverse proxy while maintaining your primary and authoritative DNS provider.

Can I create an ALIAS instead?

if your authoratitve nameserver supports CNAME flattening or ALIAS records, yes you can use those with CNAME/partial setup and it works fine what you should never ever do is hardcode IPs. always point at the domain, if your DNS provider doesnt support pointing at a domain on the root domain then you cant do it
