Server-crashing lag spikes when flying over pregenerated chunks

I'm at a loss here... my world is pregenerated up to 20kx20k in the overworld, but whenever someone flies over an area that isn't currently loaded the server starts dipping down to 2-3 TPS and unless they stop loading more chunks the server will eventually crash (without producing a crash log). I've removed all performance related mods besides lithium and it still happens. Anyone have any hints based on this spark profile? https://spark.lucko.me/tPawK9d4i1

It looks like this happens mostly when flying over oceans,

Try using /spark profiler start --only-ticks-over 150 Will give better insight

yeah

I saw that before and brought it to attention in the aether server, they seemed to think it was just putting the regular server ticks under aether mod for some reason

actually yeah that is a possibility are you using a hybrid? so you’re saying there’s nothing in the latest.log when it crashes it just stops outright?
Phare
PhareOP2mo ago
well, it says server watchdog shuitdown after a tick took 60 sec let me see if I can turn that off
Skullians
Skullians2mo ago
send that log You can set max tick time to -1 in server properties but that will result in it indefinitely hanging And even with a semi-bad cpu like that, it shouldn’t happen that log is useful though

PhareOP2mo ago
I thought it was related to c2me but happens without it let me check the others, we dont even use sponges tbh
Skullians
Skullians2mo ago
They’re all up to date. Try remove permanent sponge if you can

I've deleted permanent sponges from server and client let's see after I restart here

Take a backup beforehand alright

backup isn't fast, this world is 170gb lol deleting permanent sponges seems to have done something, actually I was flying over a coral reef when it crashed Holy shit. sponges lol Ocean chunks aren't loading well but it's not dropping TPS I probably would have torn the server apart before deleting a sponge mod Apparently it was sponge mod. Besides lithium and C2me, any server side optimization mods you can recommend?
