Shipping out to CA for an order - checking numbers
Just (finally) getting clear so i can put in an order, wanted to check the shipping estimate (as a sanity check mainly), this is for an order, and the estimates are $4, but no tax + duty, then $57 with tax + duty. If the estimate is correct, USD 33.13 would be about 47 CAD, so then adding on the 4 from the option above.. that's 51?
Mainly I'd much prefer to pre-pay tax/duty via merchant because it's generally easier/smoother/faster but the 53$ delta is a lot higher than what i was expecting for a $171 order, and since orders > 74 are tagged as free shipping but my base option is $4 wanted to check incase it's the shop that's going a bit weird (Free only seems to kick in at the CAD 220+ mark)

It sounds like you're trying to clarify the shipping and duty estimates for your order to Canada. For orders over CAD 74, you should indeed qualify for free shipping, but it seems like the system might be calculating shipping differently based on the total order value and the shipping options available.
The $4 shipping option you mentioned likely reflects a standard shipping rate, while the $57 option includes tax and duty, which can vary significantly based on the total value of the order and the specific items being shipped.
If your order total is $171 USD, converting that to CAD (approximately CAD 220) would typically qualify for free shipping, but it seems like the system may not be recognizing that correctly.
To ensure a smoother experience, pre-paying tax and duty through the merchant is often the best route, as it simplifies the process upon delivery. However, if the difference in cost is concerning, it might be worth double-checking the items in your cart or reaching out to customer support for clarification on the shipping options and any potential discrepancies in the calculations.
If you have any further questions or need assistance with your order, feel free to ask!
Yeah so we've disabled our usual free shipping option due to the canada post strike, sorry about that. As for the taxes/duties discrepancy, I believe FedEx charges $15 USD to assist with importing, so it's likely a result of that ($18.13 going to Canada for tariffs, $15 going to FedEx for importing)
no big stress, just wanted to double check - wasn't sure if i was doing something wacky or not because it seemed weird that it could be free if it was CA 220 but not free (but i mean, 4 bucks isn't super material) for CA 170.
It may be something to note more prominently because the banner still says free shipping on 74+ and when i was first speccing an order up (before I got it in my head to try chocs) the estimate does say free, hence my "wait, what? I should check this" reaction because I've already bought stuff before. If this was something that happened to me as a first time customer I'd have a much more negative reaction tbh.
Yeah canada is in a weird place right now due to the strikes 😦 I can look at changing that
canada, weird? never. 😄
on the order side, as long as the numbers i see are legit then i'll just work round those so no major stress on my part
Package hyyyyype! 😄 (now to wait for it to wind it's way through to me)
