grub menu unreadable after new gpu installation
unsure if this is causation or just circumstance, but my grub menu is a scrambled unreadable mess after installing a new gpu. pc will automatically boot into the top entry as normal after timer, and usually grub will appear after manually restarting from desktop environment - but a cold start via power button always produces this...?

Interesting problem, could you take a picture of the issue? What was the old GPU and what is the new GPU?
yes i'll send pic - but i prob shoulda looked into this before posting here, as after minimal research it appears to most likely be a new gpu thing, unrelated to linux/bazzite
i can confirm this is 100% a gpu issue - everything works fine when i use the mobo display port. havent found a solution yet; but that is unrelated to this bazzite thread ...
That may just be a toasted gpu
I had a GPU that was dead on arrival with similar behavior and artifacting. That's not to say that this is definitely what it is but.. if you don't make headway and can't get the display to work even for say.. the bios. It may be return/rma time
The default option should always work for most configurations
I would suggest letting it finish once to see what it’s like when you are in the system
so everything works perfectly in mulitple OS's; but the weird part is the grub/bios etc works normally but only if i initiate 'restart' from within an OS desktop environment
so to be clear: grub/bios is an unreadable scrambled mess when powering the PC on initially
you may be onto something with the borked gpu tho - as the display port on mobo doesnt have this issue
Sounds like a framebuffer mode issue to me
Mode on startup is wrong, but gets corrected by the drivers, hence working fine from reboots
i am going to guess its a hardware issue since i have seen this happen on exactly 0 hardware in my 16 years of using linux
yes it appears the the 3rd party card manufacturer concurs
