first layer keeps getting worse while it’s printing
Hello!!
I got a vcore 4 500mm hybrid, and for some reason I haven’t managed to get a proper first layer.
My issue is that as the first layer prints the surface is not the same. It starts from being away from the PEI and as it prints it gets closer and it is making the classic wavy pattern.
Even if I adjust the z offset and print it correctly in the next few lines it is getting wavy again.
I have already done the beacon ratos calibration.
I checked the discord for similar issues and found the heat soak variable which is set it to 1200 for bed and 30 for hotend. The results are showing in the attached images.
I have screwed and unscrewed my guide rails I have checked the frames squareness seems fine.
I’m printing ABS.
Any ideas? What is left to check?
Thanks!

I got the same unfortunately
same here. bed is 0,189. calibration done. but front right is perfect, until the middle, then it gets wavy. currently need to keep by the printer while first layer and adjusting z offset all the time.
any suggestions from someone?
The Beacon Scan compensation looks like to fixed it for me

Thanks for you attached link I will check tomorrow
Just checked not much of a difference
@Helge Keck have you any hint for uns on this?
heat soak your printer before printing and befre doing the calibration
this for example makes it automatically before each print
The macro may made the difference compared to manual heat soaking (nozzle position). So far I see two perfect first layers in progress

Ok. Now it is still overextruding/getting worse but on on layer 10 partially. 4solid bottom, 2 infill, 4 solid top. Right bottom perfect left top bad

that the heightmap which alignes to the pattern

Will try step 6 onwards now: https://docs.ratrig.com/commissioning-guides/v-core-4#build-plate-preparation
Step 6 got me to this. Let’s see if that solves it…

I have already added that to my printer cfg nothing changes
It’s very strange because it doesn’t seems like a bed levelling issue but more of a over extrusion since I noticed that when I print large items the perimeter is perfect and the first few first layer paths and then it start going crazy. Also if I change the feed rate when the wavy pattern start the I get a very good layer but for only a few paths of the infill
Didn’t solve it on my end (bottom right)

@Helge Keck any additional ideas?
I have tried everything nothing changes. @Helge Keck any ideas?

same problem on my side 😣
as longer i search for this problem on discord or google. I see a lot of user has the same problem with this. There is no solution or advice for it ?
@dead_again have you tried adjusting the tension knob on the extruder? I am having a similar issue, and I might have had the knob too tight. I realize this seems silly. but look at this print...

you can see exactly where i was fiddling with the adjustment knob. by the end i think i had it pretty dialed in.

So here is a reprint. Ignore the bottom right corner and the random gapped line. its from me pressing on parts i shouldnt have been pressing while it printed. the point is, it appears more consistent. I had previously tuned flow/offset based on results of the first pic, so i assume the remaining weirdness is due to needing to retune those things.
Yes i have tried to adjust the knob but didn’t pay much attention to it will try again
Not much of a difference!! But thanks for your help
Ah that's too bad. It didn't entirely solve my situation either, but I'll report back to this thread if I come up with a solution

This is interesting. I have the exact same issue with my 500 and 0.4mm nozzle. I have all the printer.cfg soak present and yet as the print progresses towards the back left it becomes worse. I have calibrated the gantry twist and the very first print after was great then after its back to the issue above.
After trying to figure out the origin of the issue I ended up focusing on the gantry. The 2020 extrusion when it gets hot it expands and due the nut holding it in place it doesn’t have any space so it bends towards to bed. So I heated the printer for like 3 hours and I unscrewed the T nut so it can expand. I saw some improvement but not perfect
Im also getting issue that in the beginning of the first layer print its good but then it turns like this

I'm having this same problem.
I also have this exact issue, tried almost everything, mesh, temp, PA, new nozzle, nothing seems to work.
Heat soak is the key here.
I have ordered a toro3d titanium tube to replace the 20x20 aluminum extrusion for the gantry, the issue is apparently that the linear rail is made of steel. This creates warping due to different thermal expansion factors in the materials for the steel linear rail vs. aluminum extrusion which stands directly above the heat source (bed). So it warps and bends for a long time.
Until it has arrived my only option is to heat soak the printer for a whole hour. This really sucks as a solution but it's a must for me. I turn on the bed @ 100 degrees celcius manually and leave the hotend off.
You can prove this yourself by creating height maps every 10 minutes or so for 1 hour while bed is on 100 degrees celsius. When the warping stops, it is ready
These are my settings related to the issue
variable_start_print_park_in: "center" # Important for heating the gantry most effectively, in the middle of the print area
variable_bed_heat_soak_time: 0 # I do this manually to avoid having to wait a whole hour for each print
variable_hotend_heat_soak_time: 300 # Heat soak the hotend for 300 seconds before print starts
variable_beacon_scan_compensation_enable: True
