Why image appears "pixelated" despite object-fit cover used

Hello guys, can someone explain why the image appears to be pixelated when kind of zooming out, the same image in the upper right hand-side, there it appears "beautiful" but in the middle doesn't appear in good quality, is the problem related to the resolution itself ?

I’m not an expert on this so hopefully someone that knows a bit more can hop in, but I think it is the resolution yes. If you have a low res image on a larger viewport I believe it becomes more pixelated, you can switch between the same image with different resolutions using the picture tag or srcset for the image tag

you're right, a low-resolution image will look like a smeary pixelated mess

Fun Spec Fact: we're suppose to have image-rendering: smooth; and image-rendering: high-quality; to help with situations like this. ...but as i'm sure you can guess there's pretty much no support for them. 💩
