Wallpaper Engine not working
Hiya, I'm considering purchasing wallpaper engine bc it says its compatible with bazzite but after following the link on bazzite.gg it takes me to a github with instructions for many distros, Bazzite is not mentioned specifically but it does mention fedora and fedora-kinoite. Just making the ticket to confirm that someone here has followed a similar guide and that it DOES work.
Ik "tias" but id rather not spend the money and have to deal with steam returns if someone has experience with it already.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME<3

For bazzite KDE it is pretty much preconfigured for you
So since im on kde I would just buy WE and it'll just werks?
It should
You will need to install it somewhere to subscribe to wallpapers iirc
And after that it will be in KDE’s wallpaper settings
what do you mean install it to somewhere? like just click "install" on steam or?
That will work
The key part is just subscribing to steam workshop stuff
Uhhhhh its not showing any of my installed plugins and my wallpaper looks like this
I set the library folder and its still not working
and ive restarted the pc
i subscribed to a bunch of papers too just incase a few dont work but none of them are appearing
Try
rpm -qa | grep websockets
in the terminalnothing has changed in regards to this after running that
Does the about tab say anything about the error?
I recall having similar errors in the past but it just resolved itself at some point…
hmmm...
Like from what I’m seeing there’s nothing wrong with your setup rn
yeah its kinda confusing to me
@Linus Xu When you hover over your "library" button in kde do you see this?
Same as yours
(Except for username ofc)
Hmm... What about compatability on steam itself, Which proton do you have it installed under?
Proton 9.0-3 on my end
What does python -V show? That's the only difference between our setups, it seems
I recall having to fiddle with python at some point, but I can't remember exactly what I did
What about python3 -V?
its weird the python version its not showing up, did you ever fiddle with python whatsoever? what is your
rpm-ostree status
Same result
3.13.0
Dont think so, I mightve installed a thing or 2 but im pretty sure I did any installs through venv@LivingSoul what is
which python
and which python3
@asen23
why you have python binary?
did you install it?
I dont think so
well something did, try to move it outside your path
cut/move it to ~/Downloads or something
move the python3 bin?
the python one, python3 should be fine
Wait hold on. I missed a few steps. You guys actually manage to install Wallpaper Engine?
bazzite kde included the plugin, you just need to install WE and set it up
Errr...
I'll have to take a look when I'm home
Install through Steam right?
yep
Pardon my ignorance, but I have checked yesterday. No wallpaper engine actually in my library. Is that due to incompatibility or something else?
what do you mean by library? steam library? you need to buy WE first btw
I'll take a look to get it when I'm home then, maybe that's what I'm missing
I do own a copy for it on my main account, which is also in my Steam Family. I thought initially Wallpaper Engine would be there as all the other steam library programs get shared too...
i just checked and its excluded unfortunately
So I just need to purchase a new copy on steam? Or am I misunderstanding?
yeah you need to own it on current account, you cant use it from other family account
Understood. Thank you so much for your help
Purchased it. Doesn't seem to be doing anything. Using Gnome kde for Home Theater. How can I troubleshoot?
gnome kde? you either use gnome or kde, unfortunately gnome doesnt support WE, it only works in kde
AH okay, understood
My mistake
you can use something like hanabi, but its not WE
in /bin it appears that 'python' is actually a link to
./python3
Which itself is just a link to python3.13
none of which I can move by default
not in /bin, in your home,
/bin
and ~/bin
is not the same path
