“Casual cocktail” attire?

I’m going to a reception this weekend and the host said “casual cocktail attire”. What is that? Any ideas would be great! Thanks.

As with most dress codes, it can’t hurt to ask the host or other attendees what they’re wearing in a pinch. Dress codes are often put together by people who don’t really know what they’re asking for.

Cocktail attire is usually a step less formal than formal attire. Usually jacket, button up (tie optional), and non-jean pants of some sort. The jacket and pants don’t have to match but may match. Casual cocktail attire seems to be on the casual side of that, so maybe blazer, button up with no tie, and casual pants (maybe jeans) but agree with Sto to check and confirm

Thanks for the advice! They’re pretty informal people overall so I’m sure a blazer and button up would be fine but I’ll check. Got any inspo pics handy? If I’m going to purchase an item or 2, I’ll want to use it for more than just this event!

Lots of good fits over in #waywt ! If there is a particular item you’re interested in, you can search through past questions or make a thread with specifics and folks are generally helpful

What others have said is pretty accurate imo. Casual cocktail attire is pretty vague but that allows you to be a little more creative with your dress which is a good thing!

Here are a few examples i quickly pulled from waywt that show, in my opinion, varying levels of appropriate casual cocktail attire
