Hairstyles for big foreheads?
So I have an airport for a forehead, as the first picture shows. I’m trying to come up with a hairstyle that’d work well, and I’ve had a few people suggest stuff like a curtain cut, shortened up in the back. The second picture is what I’m rockin’ right now because I have put little effort up until recently into improving my looks. What are y’all’s thoughts on a hairstyle that would work well for me?

Also if you need more pictures I’m happy to provide, I just grabbed a couple quick ones
Okay valid
But i am also clueless in fashion, which is why I was asking opinions
Impossible to know what hair will look fashionable on you without seeing how you dress.
Clothes and fashion is generally a whole outfit and vibe.
I see
your forehead is fine. if you like the lil swoop in the second that's cool but i wouldn't go with a hairstyle just to cover up your forehead
Well, the bowl cut is definitely giving Justin Bieber and I’m not a fan of it, I’m thinking a curtain cut with some product to fluff it up per a friend’s recommendation can help. I’m not necessarily just trying to cover it up, but wearing my hair back doesn’t usually look great
FWIW I don’t think you have a noticeably big forehead
And a middle part is just the trendiest way to get easy bangs if you want to cover up your forehead, if you are self conscious about it, which is a valid feeling
But I don’t think you need to worry about it bc like I said I don’t notice it
Fair enough. I’ll probably still give a different look a try as I’m wanting to do something different from the swoopy bowl, but I will take these into account. Thanks y’all
I personally have to say that it's actually pretty okay with your forehead. It's mainly more about the way you style your hair and the confidence you have with it.
In the first / left picture for example your hair lays really flat, which accentuates your face shape more and makes your face appear bigger. Having more voluminous styled hair would complement your face shape (atleast when styling it this way) and give it more of a balanced look.
That makes sense, like my hair being bigger makes my head seem not so big in comparison?
Yeah, depending on the way your hair is being styled, it can make your head appear bigger.
You can safely ignore this person who is talking nonsense.
It's nice to say things like "just add volume to your hair" when you ignore how hair works.
Char, ler, & chopper covered it tbh. You need to find something that you love and feel confident with. Part of doing that is determining your hair type and how best to care for and style it. The only person who can help you with that is a stylist, because they need to be able to interact directly with your hair.
I’ll have to research a good one then
I appreciate any suggestions anyway!
I mean it's actually pretty easy to get more volume (atleast when your hair is relatively flat). You just need to base your hair caire routine around it and use hair styling products that increase the volume. Simply using texture powder or volume powder can already make a noticeable difference. :xd:
wrong
@Umaru your forehead is not big
I saw that lmao
I appreciate it though
I was trying to say “not big” and “normal” at the same time LOL
Actually though I’m not just saying that
I wouldn’t worry about your forehead, and just find a hairstyle you like
You should find and post some photos of people whose style you like
And then we can look at how they do their hair and how they dress
🙂
So what I’m gathering here is “talk to a professional and do some research”
Which
Applies to everything in life tbh
You can just look at #inspiration or #waywt to find styles you like.
But yeah fashion is just like anything else
It’s just time (and money)
That’s another thing - I’m a big, big guy so wardrobe updates are tough. Losing weight but not to the weight I’m shooting for yet.
so going for something outside of bodily changes would be fleeting at best
I see. As in you don’t want to buy clothes that you’re worried won’t fit you in a few months?
It’s never too early to start gathering inspiration
Yeah, I can gather inspo just can’t act on it
I’m currently ~325lbs (started at 365!!) trying to get under 300, then ideally down to 250 in the end
Lots of us suffer(ed) from buying too much too fast when we first started doing this, so having a reason to slow down and collect inspo isn't a bad thing. Especially if it means you end up being more intentional in your purchasing down the line.
That’s a great point
i appreciate that point. I have a great direction/list of goals now. Y’all’re the best
Another tip with hair style is to pick a “style” (loose term) that compliments your face shape. As you continue your weight loss journey your face shape may change a little (slimming down and “tightening”) but the structure will remain.
From the limited pictures it looks a bit oval, maybe even diamond ish (wider cheekbones) so you may want to explore proportions around these shapes. If you think your forehead is big, which it isn’t huge, anything that extends up may accentuate that.
Like others mentioned, texture is usually an easy first step. You can try finding a texturizing powder or clay and sea salt. Towel dry your hair but keep it damp, add your texturizing powder, then a small spritz of sea salt and just mess it. it’ll add layers and variety that is still low maintenance but adds interest
Love this, very actionable.
face shape is dumb. Collect inspo and talk to a stylist at this point. You can make another thread and workshop once you have some inspo and ideas
In the end you kinda just gotta try it. I understand the struggle tho, I'm currently stunlocked on what I want to do with my hair so I'm doing the same stuff. Looking at pics and different hair styles and trying to decide what I might want to try
It’s still decent advice, I’m with you on that being my first step though.
are you trying to determine face shape from a couple of front facing camera pics that don't actually show his whole face?
I'm gonna just disagree that it's useful advice. Face shape stuff is generally just silly and it's just better to do the harder thing of trying out different styles and trying to pic ideas that you like.
The advice about texture is fine tho
of course try it out, but face shape is a general rule of thumb and imo not dumb. if you have a wide forehead and slim chin and get something like a slick back, it won’t highlight your facial features as nicely. Again, broad advice but it’s something to go off of
you are placing incorrect value judgements in these statements
id ask how but let’s not hijack this thread. that’s my advice, as well as many stylists.
if you're genuinely curious, you can make a qna thread
it’s also relevant to know what type of hair you have. that can play into what styles work easier for you. You can’t really force curls if you have straight hair
i do think it's worth finding a hair style that suits you now and being open and willing to that style changing as you change physically and mentally
and while i can appreciate the benefit of easy, actionable steps to make your life better, the reality is your life will probably be better still by figuring out the things that you actually life (in clothes, in hair, etc) and pursuing those
@Raggie we don’t do face shape bullshit here nor do we think wearing short pants makes one look “shorter” or “disproportionate.”
an "easy" thing to do would be parting your hair in a different spot and see if anything looks/feels good to you
that or, like many have said, see what hairstyles you like, go to a stylist with a picture, and tell them to do that. you wouldn't be the first or the last to do this and it usually works out
I realize my mistake with the pants comment, not quite what I meant. However what do you mean about face shape bullshit? It absolutely has an effect- but it’s not a restriction at all. Pick a style if you like it and rock it; there are just certain styles that accentuate your face
is the intent of hair only to accentuate your face? and if so what part are you accentuating? who or what exactly is setting the standard for what should or should not be accentuated, and is this a universal standard? and what happens if you don't want to or are predisposed to not fit within the framework of 'good' established previously?
in a nutshell that is why trying to frame attractiveness as primarily or solely dependent on the physical form is ultimately limiting, at least to me
the risk with steering people with xyz facial feature or physical characteristic towards or away from some aesthetic choice is that sure, it might help someone find a style that they feel comfortable in with a little less friction and experimentation, but you'll quickly cross a threshold where those judgments are simply not useful to you anymore
and now you've needlessly narrowed your options for experimentation which might've proved the exact opposite of whatever that guy told you looks good or bad with your forehead or whatever
it's so much more freeing to let your own aesthetic taste drive your experimentation. like oh that looks good, let me try that
very true, and good advice. I’m coming from my own experience where it was too overwhelming to pick one. Having a guide helped narrow my search personally. But again it’s all a personal choice
