Realms or hosted server
Hello,
I have a couple questions.
First, does anyone know if you buy like Star Wars Minecraft, and finish the content, can you still host it to build and do other things on it?
Second, is it possible to host several pieces of content on one server? Is it easy to switch between content?
My kids play Roblox and I hate it, so I want to setup a Minecraft server and let them play on there and go through different things, I figure its also controlled where we could invite some IRL friends and their parents onto it.
So, Im trying to figure out the best way to do that and get the most out of it, without them trying to jump around a bunch of different servers.
Thanks,
Nerdy

So, to clarify things at first: Do you and your players use the Java edition or the Bedrock edition of the game?
They would be playing on their ipads or nintendo
So it's the bedrock edition then, okay
I'm not the most knowledgeable with Bedrock servers, I'm afraid
But I'm sure that there is someone who is able to help you out
iirc realms has some kind of template system where you can switch between worlds
Hosting your own actual mc server just lets you take backups and you can restore them, assuming you use a shared hosting service such as bloom host.
Issue with realms is that they’re rather expensive for the poor hardware and give you very little control over it
Thank you
Gotcha, so realms has issues with super graphical things?
Does anyone know about my first question with buying content? Can you mod it after? Can you host a server with different ones all at the same time?
not necessarily
it's just realms isn't very performant but you get literally no access to files on realms
you can only host your own survival / creative world or use the marketplace content
which generally runs fine on realms
If you buy content and run through the missions and finish, can you just play through it and build on it still? Or is just refresh and redo?
I think I may try realms and then if it sucks, go hosted
thanks for the help
Realms are less configurable, servers pretty much have no limits, we had many users switch from realms to servers and they are more than happy :happyhappyhappy:
(So I recommend always servers, as at the end of the day it's pretty much the same price too)
What would you recommend then? When I was looking, I couldnt find anything cheaper then 15 bucks a month, realms with the minecraft pass is 8 bucks
Well, feel free to shoot a dm or check us out, we have a great panel, too :CoolDoge:
do note the star wars etc content will only work on realms
Gotcha, so if you buy content like that, it cant be hosted outside of realms?
I don't think so 🤔
one last question, if I buy the paid content, can I host it and have players access it? or does each player need to buy it? Im trying to understand how this works. I guess this how Roblox is easier, but still awful in comparison
wym by paid content
like the addons?
to my knowledge only you need to buy it and host it on your realm
Worlds and Maps: Players joining your Realm can access and experience the content without purchasing it.
Skins: Other players cannot use your purchased skins.
Texture Packs and Add-Ons: Applied to the Realm for all players to experience.
So yea everyone else should have it too. (only you need to purchase it and add it to the realm)
Thanks all, you all are amazingly helpful.
