I tried it, it's not bad but it also contains a lot of bloat that I thought I would need but ended up disabling everything
Also, they use the legacy
PlayerChatEvent
so some plugins are incompatible by default, you'll need to use the API to give support
And last time I used it I had an issue where joining/leaving the server exposed staff in vanish
I reported the issue on github but I think the dev never found a solution as I didn't get more replies and I no longer use that plugini'll just hop in here and say i could also use a new chat plugin so I'll join in on this conversation
won't even mention mine because it sucks
make your own β
then it can be whatever you want!
In other context that would be a joke, but yh, chat plugins are very simple, you can actually create your own and probably won't take more than a day without much experience
If you want a reference to start, you can use this one, they have a public repo:
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/lpc-chat-formatter-1-7-10-1-20.68965/
never a joke coming from me πͺ
If you want something to "just use", I've heard good things about ChatChat, but haven't tried myself and apparently it is still on development. Still worth a try
Tbh, I just gave up with chat plugins π
You can use CMI (Paid), Essentialsx (free), or make your own
^ no
I run zelchat, is decent
Even if I don't like essentials, if the server already has it using essentials chat is a viable option. Still, if they're asking they probably don't have essentials...
Btw, I don't give an option since I'm using a network core which happens to have a chat formatter (so I stopped looking for chat plugins). It is only meant for networks, so not a great idea on a single server
for me i use lpc + interactive chat and it does basically what most advanced chat plugins do without bloat
So ive used CMI for the past bit and idk id like a bit more/different features, I have a deep hatred for essentials and LPC just isnt enough. I do run a network so something that supports Networks is perfect:lol:
Other issue is that the idea for network cores is to have everything a network would need in a single plugin and have it synchronized.
Soβ¦ they replace luckperms and litebansβ¦ (you canβt have any of those alongside the core as it does the same)
Also, they use redis for synchronization, not a big instance so having your own or using a free plan is enough.
Iβm using Phoenix Network Core.
However, even if the core allows migration from individual plugins (luckperms, litebans), all migration comes with a risk, Iβd probably do that on a dev/test environment first
Still, I think doing a whole migration just for the chat is a bit exaggerated, specially if everything else is already working fine.
I highly recommend you to fork LPC to add whatever is missing or give ChatChat a try if your network is on modern versions.
Or use the other alternatives they gave you
theres no reason to use essentialsx chat even when they have essentials
it still a seperate plugin and its just not good
honestly looks like a pretty solid one, although sad its paid, towny channel support is very nice
ZelChat is light and packs a lot of features so I would recommend it.
Idk, essentials itself itβs not meant to be good. But yh, I do agree itβs not a good addon
ZelChat did got my attention tho, but never had the chance to try it
essentials "is not meant to be good"?
what
Idk, last time I saw a server using essentials their "vanish" was just giving the staff an inv potion (without removing the particles)
So, I got the impression that their target audience might be mostly servers that do not require more complex/reliable features
Still, it's not like I hate on essentials just because of that. I even recommend it when the server is meant to be small/whitelisted or have a limited budget
most paid cores/many plugins to 1 plugin, are usually horrendus quality tbh
Question in a chat formatting plugin
What do you guys even want
In one
Yh, I read a lot of complaints abt aqua core for example, never tried it myself tho
I might just write my own and have ppl suggest features because Iβm bored
Well, when I was looking for chat plugins what I was looking for was:
1. Chat being formatted (both global and /msg)
2. Blacklist words / regex
3. Mitigate chat spam/flood
4. Have a join/leave message
5. Allow compatibility with staff/vanish plugins
6. Support for item placeholders like [hand] and others
Pretty simple stuff
One thing I thought I wanted until I tried it myself was AI moderation, which ended up being kind of a letdown. Now I prefer to do that kind of moderation manually
ZelChat has a command to generate regex and supports them ofc, has all the chat 'protection' features you need. They also have things like [ping], [inv] and more placeholders (you may make your own). They also have built in announcement system for chat annoncements and etc. And they have a staff chat too.
Towny chat channel/faction chat channel compatability aswell ^
inventory/etc showcasing, (preferably with discord support aswell)
discord channel syncing built in
Forgot to mention those placeholders π
But yh, that's why I said zelchat caught my attention when I saw it
yea zel looks really good, might actually look into it
Has anyone here used Carbon Chat?
price is just :PAIN:
ive looked into it and it had too many features for me π
got a bit overwhelmed
Well, it has 25% dsc for bfriday
Not much, but at least is something
and extra 10% when im coming from another plugin
true
it looks like the actual best option so far, I will defo look deeper into it
20% even
Ended up buying ZelChat :happy_emoji:
