Blazers for small guys?
I’m going to be starting a new job in February and will need a couple of well-fitting suits before then. I’m short & skinny (5’6”, 32” chest, 39” shoulders, 28” waist) and in all my years of thrifting & secondhand shopping I’ve never found a blazer that even comes close to fitting. Ideally I’d like to keep it under $500 with tailoring.
I’m in LA so have access to most major brands and solid tailoring services. I have some very basic sewing/tailoring skills and tailor most of my pants to fit. I have several nice pairs of dress pants already and am primarily looking for blazers. I would strongly prefer to buy in-person or at least from a brand that I can try on before purchasing.
Are there any brands that make decent blazers for small guys? I’m fine buying something in a youth size as long as it’s decent quality and actually fits.
If not, are there any made-to-measure brands you can recommend? I’ve seen extremely mixed reviews of MTM brands like Indochino and Suit Supply.
Thanks guys!

Thanks for the unsolicited comment on my body
Don't do this.
No bro that measurement doesn't make sense
Just to clarify, you're looking for just blazers? A suit is matching jacket + pants cut from the same cloth.
You can think of a better way to express that.
Sorry, I'm saying I think you're taking your shoulder measurement incorrectly.
I've only ever seen it as a point to point measurement so 39" doesn't make sense and won't be useful as you try to compare it to measurement charts
I know. I am primarily looking for a blazer that actually fits. I have dress pants and can mix and match.
39" around. I have very unusual measurements which is why I was looking for advice. I was told this was a friendly & accepting place, my mistake for believing that
Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren have in the past made decent blazers in youth sizes. Maybe worth seeing if there's a local stockist you can try stuff on at?
I hear you, you mentioned needing suits so I was just making sure.
Thanks
I'm sorry again for the poor phrasing on my part. I didn't intend to comment on your body, just that measuring around your shoulders isn't going to be very useful. I'd double-check a guide like this one to make sure you are taking your measurements correctly.

Indochino are terrible, dont buy from them
Yeah, I've heard. Are there any decent MTM brands out there? I've never found a brand with consistently positive reviews
a bunch of them, but 500 for an mtm jacket that is solid is tough
how much is spier mckay these days
I'm an unusual shape so honestly the only stuff Ive got to fit was either custom made (when I was in Vietnam so not much help), or buying second hand and getting it tailored
about 500 lol
maybe a little lower if you pick a basic fabric
oh that's a good price you should do that @pat
Awesome, thank you!
VBC navy twill is $498 and everything else is a bit more
39" around isn't weird. He's pointing out that around the shoulders isn't a good way to measure for sizing.
Ah I see he clarified
I know it isn't, I was trying to be helpful, my mistake, won't do that again!
39 across and a 32 chest would be... extreme 😅
Women's suiting might be a good option as well
When I wear women's clothing I get mistaken for a woman. It is not an option.
Womens blazers will generally be quite a different shape
(As I found out trying to help my friend get herself a tuxedo)
posting measurements is helpful, you did the right thing! What awz and beans are saying is measuring in a straight line across is more helpful for blazers than measuring around.
calm down, people are giving their time for free to try and help
Whatever, I got the rec I was looking for. Bye.
hmmm
i think he left
Did he just leave after getting the help
:bruh:
Damn, one thread stand, I feel used
Well, at least he got what he needed?
