Bottom Row Not Working

Hi, Been using my wireless corne for around a month with no problems, but after leaving it alone over the weekend I came back to the bottom row and thumb keys not working on the left half. For context, this is my first build — so not super experienced. I’ve since swapped the nice nanos and confirmed the same behavior moved to the right half. So, seems like my boards are fine, but one of my nice nanos is not working on p1.00 and p0.11. In the attached picture I think the solder joints look fine (right side, 3rd and 4th from bottom), but I wonder if I had my iron too hot and messed up the pcb (second pic viewing from left)? Should I try to re-solder the joint or is there something I can test with a multimeter first? It’s probably time to just buy another nice nano… Any advice is appreciated!

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with the bottom row and thumb keys not working, which is often related to soldering or connection problems. Since you've already swapped the nice!nano and confirmed the same behavior on the right half, it does suggest that the issue may be with the solder joints or the PCB itself. Before deciding to buy a new nice!nano, I recommend testing the solder joints and checking for shorts with a multimeter. Here’s what you can do: 1. Check the Solder Joints: Even if they look fine, it's worth reflowing the solder on the joints for p1.00 and p0.11. Sometimes, a joint may appear good but not be making a solid connection. 2. Use a Multimeter: Set your multimeter to continuity mode. Check the following: - Test the continuity from the nice!nano pins to the corresponding pads on the PCB. If there's no continuity, it indicates a bad connection. - Check for shorts between the pins and nearby traces. If you find any, it could be causing the issue. 3. Inspect the PCB: If you suspect that the PCB might be damaged, look for any visible signs of burning or damage around the solder joints. If you find any, it may be time to consider replacing the nice!nano. If after these steps the issue persists, it might be a good idea to get a replacement nice!nano. If you need further assistance, the troubleshooting documentation can provide additional guidance. Good luck with your build!

the very same thing just happened to me for the second time on a replaced nano: bottom row on the left half suddenly stopped working. Did you use magnetic connector? Do you use a premium alu case?

Dang! Yeah I have the alu case, but not sure what you’re referring to by the magnetic connector

use a tweezer or wire to touch the two pins on the microcontroller that correspond to a bottom row and its column if it’s the same case as ours it will not produce a value which means the nano needs to be replaced

Dang I just had another row (the middle one) stop working on my left half again. Could something by wrong with the corne pcb that is causing these issues? It’s definitely frustrating to just have the keyboard become useless after it just sat untouched on my desk for a few hours. What do you mean by produce a value? Are you saying to short the pins and then try typing on the non-working row? @Nordar did you ever find a resolution that explained what happened? Or did you just get a new nano and are hoping it doesn’t happen again?

Happened to me twice now, after the second time I stopped using a premium case. On the first time I got a replacement nano. Now on the second time I’m still waiting for Nick to respond on the support topic. Running theory is that something I causing a short around the nano’s usb port during charging.

Damn yeah I could see that being quite likely with the frequency of plugging the left half in. I suppose I’ll switch the case out and see if that keeps the issue at bay. Thanks for the quick reply!

where are you waiting for the reply? we’re working on a fix and will have new nice!nanos that should be more resilient soon

Hi Nick, here https://discord.com/channels/924164891990978570/1299387823689961543 Basically since November when it happened to me for the second time I’m left with a fried nano and no way of using the corne

Sure, we can send another replacement if you'd like, but we're not expecting the "fixed" nanos until a month or so from now. Outside of that, grounding yourself before plugging in and adding a humidifier to your room may help (both your electronics and your skin!)

I’d rather wait for a new nano rev to be honest. I’m testing other keebs at the moment and corne is my travel option
