Anyone have any cool ideas for new gauges? I have run out!

Does anyone use this gauge?
I don’t.
Might be cool on the watch?
The value mapping gauge could be handy. It would be common for charger status and other scenarios
How memory intensive do you think it would be to apply an equation to a gauge? I know it’s better to calculate in SK with a new path, but it would also be great to do some basic math to a value to format
Another thing that would be nice is a way to simplify the sorting of gauges in a panel
Sorry a bit of a tangent haha
🙂 … youve run out of enhancements to make on wsk?
hmmm recall our discussion (2 year? back) about building a layout that has an image, and then “guages” over the top used as indicators ..
i still have this .. but avoid modifying it,, because its so difficult to edit and move “small” “guages” .
at present i use “led” guages to show lights, hatches/doors open … but editing them is bloody impossible once you try to scale them to small size.
i assume its a limitation of the underlying “layout” capabilities of the editor?
.. but i wonder if a new guage type for “indicator text” and “indicator lamp” that are optimised to this use might make it easier?
i can share one of these layouts .. you can then try to edit it and see what i mean.
this is what it looks like … with no “indicators” lit up (lights are off, no windows or hatches open)
What do you mean? Sorting?
aside the existing guages .. i was going to add temperatures to it … eg some simple text
Changing the gauge order within a panel
How could I make this easier?
its the editing and layout that is difficult.. once you scale the guages down . it then becomes impossiible to “pick” a guage and then move it, or open it to edit it.. (and im doing this on an ipad pro 13” screen)
as i said, im thinking its a limitation of the underlying editof functionality
editor
I don't know how I could fix that on a touch screen
do you really need a picture of your boat?
yeah i suspect its the touch functionality also getting in the way ..
I'm still not sure what you mean
🙂 prob not.. but its the “idle” (bragging) screen on the Ipad in saloon ….
supper hard to implement even the resizing of gauges
🙂 trying to make it “czone” like! haha
Long tap icon in upper left of the gauge maybe?
yep understand.. thats why inhave “not touched” it in 2 years!
Tony, I still don't understand what you mean by "sorting" gauges
otherwise .. im struggling at moment for a ‘NEW’ guage type, and no i dont use that earlier multi guage you showed
Once a gauge is setup in a panel, I want to change the order
Reposition gauges in a view after getting them all setup
ahh. In my mind. you just tap and hold and change the gauge?
Yes
Did you ever get anywhere with the custom gauge stuff in Swift Playgrounds?
But you have settings for long tap so will need an icon or edit switch on the panel
i put it on “hold” .. i recall there was something you were going to do, and yiu said “hold off” till then?
im still keen to get my electrical layout guagerunning ..
I'm just not sure if I should spend time on that.
if you are the only one that wants to build custom gauges, then it's not worth it
understand.. was t suggesting that.
agree
im an “outlier” 🙂 haha
And that sounded bad.
I did not mean that you are not "worth it"
no offense taken
i know how far and wide you are spread across “signalk” !
Give me details (and you probably already did), on what you want your electrical gauge to look like
I can make custom stuff so easy now with Swift
no… i dont want you going down that rabbit hole at the moment
if its possible ,,, i will have a go at it … i geuinely thought there was a fundamental “thing” you needed to setup to enable (me) to do the designs in swift. if its possible “now” then i will go down the rabit hole (first)
lol. I am still so confused about what you are talking about! I am being stupid probably.
Things have changed a ton under the hood.
And I have not updated the SwiftPlayground libraries
so is “now” the time for me to get back at swift
NO. I still need to update stuff to the latest.
ok… now worries, im back home from cruising… with a project list that is killing me ….
so lots of other stuff to do!
about to hit my (“wood working” workshop) to make a custom mount for starlink dish.
i relented whilst away .. and am now a convert! simply amazing to sit at anchor and have 20++MBps.
my “crew” are in bliss.. which makes my life as captain way easier.. haha
200+MBps
I keep thinking about it...
I am also a woodworker, btw
I have a killer shop that I don't use much anymore!
i resisted for ages, but got sicking of my wife calling from saloon “the internet is down” “its slow”
.. and have since talked at least 3 cruising buddies into it… Gen 3 SL
built a 24V to 57V (monitored) power supply (to avoid the additional inefficiency of the Starlink AC power supply)
… only thing to beware … Sl eats power! not an issue for me, but the yachties with lesser battery capacity need to watch out
All the fucking tools!
I have great cell coverage at 90% of my anchorages
in my part of world “snow melt mode” is permanently OFF, and still it idles at 45W .. and peaks at 100W when doing a biggish download
that is nothing!
and now with LFP?
LGP?
LFP?
lithium phosphate
LiFePO4
🙂 i have 600Ah at 24V .. and still need to watch it.
12 underwater lights … stereo… cooking, .. suprising how quickly it can eat it up!
.. but the generator is a only push button away !
yeah, you need more
yeah, i do have space for a fourth victron smart battery …
fucking generator!
I wish
I need a new boat
i try to manage a “1 hr a day” generator run.
- charge batteries (200A chgr)
- run dishwasher 🙂
- heat hot water
- run watermaker
- run washing machine..
i can really load it up!
jelious
you have hot water?
lol
.. heh gotta go.
on volunteer coastguard duty today .. gotta go a dn save the world.!
