Chino color opinions?
I usually wear raw denim but I'd also like some chinos for slightly more formal events as well as for transitioning into and from summer. What kind of colors work best? I will be styling them primarily with navy/black tee shirts but sometimes cream/white/baby blue tees. Haven't gotten any OCBDs yet. Idk if navy would be too bland with also navy shirts. Does khaki or tan work well with darker tops too? How about white or light cream? Should chinos have any sheen on them? I've basically been wearing jeans all my life so I'd like a bit of advice on styling them.
Any other advice for rocking chinos? Opinions on going with linen? How to layer for interesting textures, especially in slightly warm temperatures?

Khaki or tan will look great with any of the color tops you mentioned and is classic. A tucked in tee (white, blue, navy, black) will look great if things fit well. Really hard to go wrong. I would look for vintage images of folks wearing chinos and there are a million good examples out there
Other colors that are pretty dynamic are navy, olive, cream, and brown. I would be careful with a stark white as it's not quite as easy to pair as you might think and looks cold
Usually higher quality chinos will have a smooth texture with tightly spun fibers and a bit of luster to them, as they likely use mercerized cotton. This makes them more durable and helps them take dye better. Lower quality chinos will often have a duller appearance and may have pilling if they are used
Otherwise, if you can give an idea of what sort of styles you are into you will probably get more ideas and some better guidance on how to style them
