Do raglan sleeves on coats get shortened from the shoulder or the sleeves?
Do raglan sleeves typically get shortened from the sleeve ends or the shoulders? If they’re shortened from the sleeve ends, would it mess things up to re-taper the sleeves after shortening?
I have a coat with raglan sleeves that are a tad bit long. A local seamstress previously shortened sleeves like these from the sleeve ends, but this method widened the sleeve openings which I didn’t like. I suppose I could ask her to re-taper the sleeves after shortening, but I’m willing to pay a little more if there is a better/“proper” way to do this.

Maybe I am insane but wouldnt the sleeves no longer fit back on the jacket for a similar reason if they were completely removed and reattached after being hemmed?
Generally shortening has always been the edges of the sleeves in my experience
May just need to find a tailor who can also try and taper the sleeves a bit
I would potentially seek out a tailor who specializes in suiting
shortening at the shoulders is a thing, but it's far more difficult (and expensive if you pay someone to do it)
often there's also lining in the way and you need to deconstruct the garment quite a bit
Yeah fair. I guess if you find a skilled enough person they can do almost anything to a garment
you'd mostly do it when the sleeve has complicated details
Shortened at the sleeve
Had it done on one raglan coat, and as of yesterday having the same alterations on another coat
