Merino sweater blend question

Hello everyone, I’m currently purchasing a few sweaters with a merino wool blend, but I’m struggling to determine the percentage of merino wool that makes the sweater both durable and warm. I currently own a few 100% merino wool full-sleeve garments that I use as base layers, and I’m searching for a mid-layer for the winter. During the winter in my location, temperatures can drop to as low as -20 to -30 F, so I’m looking for lightweight but warm layers. Any advice or specific brand recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

this isn't a thing, if you want a warm wool it has to be thick. You can read up on how mountaineers layer to stay warm, though that might be a bit extreme for your needs. this is a pretty good guide: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/what-to-wear-mountaineering.html

if you're genuinely going out in temps that are -20 to -30f (that's -28 to -34c for those of us on the celsius scale) then you probably need to be looking at some serious insulation as a mid-layer (and gloves)

There's a lot of fluff in there since you're not actually mountaineering. The main take away is their layering system: base layer, insulating layer, insulated jacket, and waterproof top layer if necessary.

Thanks! I recently got a down jacket and a Columbia Titanium jacket—it’s pretty light but keeps me warm. Normally, I layer up with a thermal, a fleece hoodie, and the jacket, which works well for cold weather. Lately, though, I’ve switched to merino wool, and it’s been warm enough that I can skip the thermals. Now, I just wear a merino base layer with a sweater under my jacket. This way, I stay comfortable indoors, like at the office or in restaurants, since merino wool regulates body temperature well. I was looking into merino blends because I read they’re more durable. I’ve been trying to find a thick merino sweater, but it’s been challenging to find one that’s just right. I do have a good one from Kuhl, but I’m hoping to find something a bit thicker. Yes! That’s why I was hoping to find a thick enough merino sweater to use it as mid layer.
