AMD 7900 GRE Dual Encoding Issues...

Hey gang, I recently got an AMD 7900 GRE to replace my dual GPU RX6750x and Arc 380 set up... I had the Arc added to perform AV1 encoding only, and it worked great (aside from having to replug the video cable each time i used it). But now with the 7900 GRE, I am having "skipped frames due to encoding lag" in OBS, whenever I try to stream using two of the encoders (AV1 and H264 usually)... I have bandwidth to multistream, and my computer can handle it, but the GPU does not seem to like both encoders going out at once...

Can you post the OBS settings you're using for those encodes And what resolution & frame rate are you encoding at

Thanks Hunter! When I swapped my cards, I'm afraid some of my settings were reset in OBS. But here's the basics... AMD HW AV1 1440p CBR 7000 KBPS Keyframe interval - 2 Preset - Quality Profile - main I know Twitch doesn't support AV1 yet, but I've been streaming to it for the past 4 months using the dual GPU setup

So I assume you're using the same setting for Twitch but using AMD HW H264 instead of AV1, correct? Can you post an OBS log where you had this issue happen

Well I was trying to use the same settings, via the old Suroyaki mutlirtmp plugin... But I've been trying the other encoders as well, H264 or 265, usually around the same or lower bitrate. Every time I get basically the same OBS log results reporting Critical Encoder Overload. That's clearly what is causing the Skipped frames, but it seems weird that the encoders can't run at the same time.

Analyzer | OBS
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.

I've tried lowering the priority of the Twitch stream as well

Well one of the main things that even the OBS log analyzer is pointing out is that your ethernet card is for some reason running at 100mbps instead of 1gbps

I have gotten that in the logs since the beginning, it still streamed ok with the dual gpus

Does doing only 1 stream cause these issues

No, if I do either one alone, there's no problem Even if I run the Twitch from the multirtmp

Try running OBS as admin

Gotcha, thank you again! Well, running the h264 encoder for Twitch stream works fine at 1080p30fps… which is ok for now. I’m considering just returning the GRE and getting an XT instead, as the GRE seems to have a few weird attributes that choke its performance.

GRE is an underpowered model for sure

Wait is the gre slower than the xtx?

Yes, it's the weakest 7900 variant The order from lowest to highest variant is GRE, XT, XTX It's pretty much made solely to meet the requirements the US set for tech companies that GPU's have to be of a specific performance level to be sold in China

Oh well. Glad I have the xtx
