Jackets for Giraffes

I'm looking for a jacket that fits me, I'm 6'6" so this is hard, especially since my chest is only about 44" despite a 38" sleeve. Trying to have the following traits: Looks reasonable inside or outside. Mostly for wearing at work so something vaguely business casual, I'm willing to accept anything above street wear and below a suit. Not more than... $300? I move around in the US southwest (TX, NM, NV) where there isn't "real" winters but it can get cold near winter and in offices, not looking for anything super heavy.

Im 40” chest with 36” sleeve length and Eddie Bauer is my only consistent source of jackets. I’d recommend you try an XL tall in their cirruslite down jacket series. Size chart claims 37.75 sleeves on upper end and 45 chest on bottom end. But the slight oversize might let the shoulder seam droop a bit and get you a longer “effective sleeve length”. Lands end might be worth looking but I only have experience with their sweaters.

I was hoping to avoid stepping on the LL bean/Eddie Bauer trap again tbh

You could try Territory ahead. Wait for a sale. They have a unique style but do have longer than usual/common tall sizes. All the other brands I could recommend are solidly in the 35/36 sleeve length. Some brands do custom tailored outerwear/ peacoats too but that’s probably more than $300

I think @Dave has a similar sleeve length and might have some recs. For what you're looking for, I would probably start with Banana Republic and J Crew, but /r/tallfashionadvice has some good guides on brands for tall people. To get the proper sleeve fit you might sometimes need to get a jacket that's a bit wider than what the brand recommends for your chest measurement, but I've learned to embrace the look of a baggy jacket.
