Ridiculous question...
I see references to different "types" of style (traditional, bohemian, softboy, etc.) and it seems like many have subcategories.
I can make guesses in some cases, but in others I have literally "no" idea what it means. I can obviously Google but in some cases the results seem.....dubious.
Suggestions on the best way to build an understanding of this? Are there guides I missed or (trustworthy) ones elsewhere? Is it even necessary for a 40's dad/professional who is 98% certain some slight variation of "traditional" is where he will land?

I wouldn’t really sweat it
Words like that can be helpful as search terms when trying to build a pile of inspiration to source form but I wouldn’t lose sleep over not knowing what starboy fashion is
If you’re comfy with trad menswear stick to it!!
The definitions of these styles and the clothes that belong to them are also changing daily so I really wouldn’t (and don’t) pay much mind to it unless you had plans to be a fashion journalist or commentator
Thanks all, this is helpful/good to know. Definitely no plans to become a fashion journalist🤣 Just trying to look a bit less like the frumpy professor who grabbed two random things from his closet he got 15 years ago in graduate school because they were the cheapest thing on the shelf .
You just described what half of us aspire to look like. Keep doing you 😂 💪
Definitely feel free to look thru #waywt and #inspiration , save some pics you like, and make another thread asking for brand recommendations including the pics you save as reference!
@ClassClown Something tells me y'all care a bit more whether yours fit 😉 Thanks all!
Things can always be tailored! I just think "lived in for 15 years" almost always trumps anything new. Very cool to have a wardrobe for that long. Rock on ✌️
