New Work/Commute Everyday Backpack
I’m contemplating getting a new daily bag. I have been using a Fjallraven Totepack which is great as a travel underseat bag and good because it can be both a tote and a backpack but the 14L and thin straps are starting to become difficult for everyday
I’m looking at the JanSport RightPack as a classic choice. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jansports are great but not super big either iirc
That sounds perfect for my needs
https://www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-daylite-carry-on-travel-pack-35l-f24?color=Black I have an Osprey I use for carrying shopping and the like. Super sturdy and a great warranty
I think I only need a 20-25L bag, water bottle pocket, and some easy/quick access pockets
I’m not a tall person (5’8) so I don’t want a huge bag
Oh you'll be fine with the JS then, holds about 25l iirc
Looks great, not often do I see Osprey in bright colours. However that’s probably too big for my needs
I don’t need anything big. Just something that can hold a few notebooks and a lunchbox. Having some helpful commuting features would be nice such as quick access pouches and etc
As the JanSport is a legacy design it might lack some of the modern features
Hence why I created this thread

Those are certainly interesting, but also expensive
you didn't specify a budget you just asked for suggestions and you've been here a while by this point. I have one of the EM ones and it's great.
Sorry I was just commenting as I don’t usually consider that much for a backpack
what do you usually consider?
Less than $200 AUD🇦🇺 (135 USD🇺🇸)
Another option is probably Herschel which has the Pop Quiz and others
But the quality of the materials is lacking
I genuinely like the Patagonia Kids Line
they change the patterns a lot so there's many options around : https://eu.patagonia.com/gb/en/product/kids-refugito-daypack-18-liters/47895.html?dwvar_47895_color=MRTL
I think I have seen goods things about their tote style backpacks
It does seem very practical and modern, whilst I am usually impractical and vintage haha
eiken do some cool canvas vintage style backpacks
or old milsurp bags - there's loads to choose from though you might have to import something
Cool, I’ll check them out then report back
hershcel xl is also pretty good
the only issue i had (and probably because it was black) was the color faded after a few years of continuous use
After a few years is reasonable for fading from regular use imo. I kinda like that sometimes
Eiken is interesting but they’re very stylised, almost like movie props @pancake
I’ve also had Herschel bags in the past and enjoyed them somewhat but found them also a bit limited
In terms of organising and features, but this was almost a decade ago (oh gosh)
I really enjoy my Ortlieb Vario PS. But that one only really makes sense if you are riding a bike with any regularity bc its technically a bike bag that transforms into a backpack.
I wish I rode a bike more, but I sadly don’t
i always plug Topo Designs when people ask about bags / backpacks because i love my stuff from them

Yeah, i have the 40L roller bag and 2 backpacks that i use for different things. Super happy with them
I want 20L or under, water bottle holders, quick access pockets, organisation, key clip, external clips for small items ie. hand sanitizer, and all in a stylish bag good for work or casual in a humid environment. I primarily need space for a lunchbox, waterbottle, and insulated coffee cup, all of which just fits in my 14L Fjallraven Totepack No.1
If anybody else has any suggestions please let me know 🙏
(I know it’s a lot to ask)
