1.21.1 - GPU usage not at 100%
hello,
i'm using complementary shaders verson 5.2.2 with the latest stable versions of sodium and iris for 1.21.1 and i noticed that the gpu usage is not quite at 100%, the gpu also is not using the 160w it normally uses with high graphic fidelity games
i have a ryzen 5 5600 with an rtx 3060 - could this be a cpu bottleneck? i really don't think so because minecraft is the only game i have this problem with
any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance

could you provide more settings and an f3 screenshot?
lmk if u need anything else
worth noting the first screenshot was taken on a server so the cpu wasn't being loaded up by the server client
i didn't take it there because there was a scoreboard in the way and i couldn't disable it
what sin have i commited pls lmk
please revert that chunk update thread count to default
oh i think i turned that one while testing ages ago and forgot to turn it off
um the gpu usage is still below 100%
i suspect some of your mods might be causing more of a cpu hit, but i cant tell
lemme send u them hold on
though a summary: using fabulously optimized for 1.21.1 with nvidium bobby wthit and badpackets api
dyk if any of these are known cpu hogs?
(btw i know nvidium is disabled with shaders it's just for when i decide to not use shaders)
try enabling always defer chunk updates in sodium settings
no change
let's try a simple experiment, disable all the mods and see if Minecraft can use the entire GPU
every mod but iris and sodium right?
with iris and sodium and shaders it uses less gpu
it just used 80% in the saving world screen ???? ok
even less in vanilla so i suspect this could be a problem with my system config
try even without them too
it could be a system/driver settings issue
yea that's what i'm suspecting. i went into the system graphics settings and disabled efficiency mode for the javaw.exe i was using
now i'm gonna try in the nvidia control panel
the problem still persists
i'm out of ideas
i would reset Nvidia control panel stuff, disable windows game mode
also lower the amount of ram you're using, but i don't think these would inherently solve the problem
Does the percentage come with any actual issues? Doesn’t seem like you are experiencing problems
well the game isn't performing as well as it could
I’m not so sure
i'm sure with 95-100% gpu usage the game would be running better
i applied an overclock to force the game to suck more power and it certainly is performing better
okay
what we need is a spark log
download the spark mod
then
/sparkc profiler --timeout 20
on it
you will never get a full 100% reliably
it's ok as long as i get as close as i can to 100%
is that realistic?
reasonable usually
Yeah, shaders are intensive
very strange as I can reliable get 90-100% util
Using beta 4?
beta 5 on NF
spark
spark is a performance profiler for Minecraft clients, servers, and proxies.
it says you're already GPU limited...
just to make sure, is your log file empty
like the mc log file?
also gpu usage doesn't really matter as long as you're getting expected performance
but that seems a bit low
yeah
Is this behavior exclusive to Minecraft? @Ticha
yes
There are a lot of bottlenecks that aren't just game and GPU
it's not - i can send u it
nah, was just checking if it was being spammed
How to find crash reports and logs
It is recommended to upload your logs to https://mclo.gs then paste the link into Discord to automatically censor potentially sensitive information and help us diagnose issues more efficiently. However, you may also drag and drop the file directly into Discord.
Logs can be found in the logs folder inside your .minecraft directory. We are probably interested in the one named latest.log.
Crash reports can be found in the crash-reports folder inside your .minecraft directory. We are probably interested in the most recently created one.

lemme check
also random idea, try downgrading your drivers
yea it's being spammed by the journeymap web mod hold on lemme turn that off
how bad is the spam
Quite
like once a frame
:ioa:
no actualy not once a frame bad
but like
it is printing a lot of crap
okay fair
try that
I heard 565 drivers changed something MC related
so try downgrading to 560 or 555
Interesting
doubt it
Yeah 90% and a 565
even without shaders and no RTSS frame cap in place, it sucks about 100W at 50% util
i ran the profiler again with journeymap disabled and i also logged the game: https://spark.lucko.me/W7rKaJ4yNm https://paste.ee/p/InmHR

oh it seems the game crashed when i quit that's odd
share that crash log after uploading it to mclo.gs
might as well check that too
Not that it's related but better not ignore such thing
no, i think i'm wrong, it wasn't a crash. it just showed an exit code with a stack buffer overrun exit code name so i think it's just shenanigans and not exactly relevant
either way it's in the log i linked above
You are still using MultiMC?
yes
If you ever find the time, please make the switch to Prism
just letting you know
i heard about prism launcher and it doesn't offer any features i rly need so i've never seen the need to switch
i could try downgrading drivers if needed
Best to do with NVCleanstall
Although given I am running on 565.90 with a 4070 Super just fine I cannot imagine this doing a thing
yeah i use this already
I am honestly clueless as to why this behaves like so
Welp, found something else that's peculiar
time for another issue to be opened
ok so i downgraded to driver version 560.70
still the same
the only other software using my gpu rn are the electron apps i'm running (spotify and discord)
what are your ram specs
and do you have any java args
oh also is your fps constant or does it fluctuate

I have the same issue, it's something to do with latest Iris update, which is 1.8, I havent found a solution yet other than to install the previous 1.7.3 version, which works flawlessly
i'll have to try that out, thank you
