stuttering issue with shaders on linux
things I've noted
- this doesn't happen on windows
- it only stutters when loading or generating chunks
- my gpu usage drops as I load or generate chunks (as seen in the video)
- happens on every shader
- doesn't happen when I have shaders off
- also happens with optifine but to a lesser extent
- also happens when I don't record
- same thing happened on my previous installation of arch from early this year
- has happened on both dwm and kde plasma with x11 (haven't tried it with wayland or any other de/wm)
specs and game configuration
ryzen 7 5700x, rtx 3070, 2x16gb ddr4 3600mhz cl18, and a 2tb kingston nv2
16 chunks render, 12 sim fancy graphics and 75 fov 4gb ram allocated with minimal mods (ie sodium iris and fabric api)
I am on the latest open source nvidia 560.35.03 driver using arch linux with the stock kernel in a dualboot with windows 11

Solution
Try disabling
Use No Error Context
option in Video > Advance tab.fyi base sodium + iris do not require fabric api to function on the fabric mod loader
gotcha
-# also feel bad for you using an NV2 drive, better hope it stays alive for another year or two before the inevitable death
this seems to have fixed it, I appreciate the quick response
:haha_yes:
Issue was very much exclusively on Linux so, the answer is pretty certain, except for very small edge-cases (can be found in #iris-issues, most of them are AMD cards instead).
Yikes, 640 TBW when the competition rates at 1200 TBW or higher for similar capacity.
:harold:
I mean I've had my nv2 since february last year and it's still going strong
Assuming you don't do super heavy workload like I do, you should be good for another 2 to 2 and a half years.
It's a bad value, low quality m.2 drive so many fall for unfortunately
Would not be surprised if there were a QLC variant around as well
oh wait a minute, there is
yeah I kinda just looked at the cheapest 2tb nvme ssd I could get at the time and got the nv2
that was also around the time I was still learning about computers
Want me to send you the spreadsheet I always refer to?
sure
Tools like CrystalDiskInfo can help you keep your drives in-check.
last time I checked it was at 98% health
More like help you monitor the drive health.
in crystaldisk
which was around a month ago more or less
98% after a year of use sounds pretty moderate.
yeah
right now is the fullest it's ever been
having only around 500gb left on it
Mine isn't that good either it seems...

My PC doesn't have NVMe slots to begin with.
unheard of by today's standards, must be ancient technology
My brother's B550 motherboard does.
My other drive could've been SAS.
:linus:
Is there an official website?
+:this:
Failed reaction.
:harold:
CDI and CDM are both worth running
:pixelheart:
Thanks
