How much cold can a barn jacket tolerate?
Looking for fall/winter jackets, I came across the really stylish J Crew's heritage Barn Jacket. While a hoodless jacket was not what I had in mind, it's still very stylish and I'm considering buying it but I'm wondering how much cold it can protect me from? Like is it fine to wear around 0 degree Celsius or even a little below around -10 Celsius or so? And suppose it rains, would if offer a bit of protection for the body at least?

Probably fine at freezing temps if you’ve got a sweater or somethin under
I wouldn’t count on it to be all that waterproof tho
Like to and from the car or around the block sure but I wouldn’t wear it out in the rain for an extended amount of time
This is all based on my personal experience with the ll bean barn coat
definitely something you get a bit oversized and layer underneath
So, it's like a mostly style item?
no i just mean that if i buy a barn coat im expecting to wear at least a few items underneath it, like a sweater, flannel, thermal etc. i personally wouldn’t just rock a t shirt under it, i don’t think it’d be very warm (unless the barn coat was lined)
Very much a fall jacket imo
Well, it says fully lined
Probably worth it still. I figured I'll need at least two jackets with one specially for -30 Celsius and below. I guess I'm just a bit worried if it was around 0 Celsius and it started raining without warning.
Yeah and tbh they look cool enough that it’s worth bein a little cold
the waxed cotton one is water resistant (they say) so you'll probably survive in light rain
if you live in an area where you get torrents it's worth springing for a barbour or dedicated raincoat imo
