How to style a longer leather jacket?
Hey everyone, for some reason I've been keeping my eye out for a good looking longer leather jacket. I think they look pretty cool on their own but was wondering how best to style this type of jacket. Any inspos out there that frequently use similar pieces?
I'm looking at this one right now second hand, it's very cheap so it would be an affordable introduction to the style.

i might just not
honestly
i have a longish leather blazer and i struggle so much to style it
the connotation is not great and that one isn't distinct/unique enough to avoid it
I don't follow with what you are trying to say, am I missing something?
to me they either read like matrix cosplay or, uh, bank robber
unless they're intentionally and well styled
That's why I'm asking for inspiration and advice
They are not nearly in the same club as the long matrix trenchcoats with dramatic flow
godspeed, if sam can't style something i sure as shit can't
u could look towards some ann demeulemeester runways but a lot of her stuff is either longer or shorter
rick owens could be another option but his leather jackets are muuuuuch weirder and more interesting than this one
neither of these brands do typical menswear styling tho
Was thinking thick overshirts under the blazer, wide pants and black leather boots?
simple 1460's or chelsea boots
or turtle necks, silver buckled belt
i would go for an easier task than trying to make a long black leather jacket look good
such as inventing cold fusion or ushering in world peace
I opened a can of wurms haha, I wasn't aware it was that difficult
I'm sorry I don't think this would work
if anything I would go colorful instead of monochrome to avoid some of the negative connotations
im sensing you're not american so the topic that people are kind of dancing around (and forgive me, if even mentioning this kind of thing is a bit graphic for the server, go ahead and delete) is this kind of jacket was worn in the columbine shooting in 1999 which completely destroyed its already sketchy reputation
These end right underneath the waist, if I recall the columbine coats were extra long trench styled
You're good, people have said this to similar questions before
But yes, I'm not American. And I see blazers like these on the streets daily
kk it seemed like people were avoiding it a bit
even then
its just a bit hard
But it's usually worn in a very 70's esque fit, wide piped pants, which also isn't my thing
do you have pics of outfits you like
Doing a Google lens for that +outfit, and, yeah every example looks terrible tbqh, I'd find it hard to imagine a way to make this work unless you already have a really clear idea/aesthetic in mind
I understand it is not an easy to style piece, and I have been succesfully thrown off of the idea by now. I do think it's a bit unfair to reference google pictures from ebay listings and the likes. I'm sure there's people out there that can make it look good. But I don't have a aesthetic in mind, just vague ideas. That's why I was hoping it was more workable.
If you really do want to style a leather blazer you’re going to have to either go super 70s or super 90s and embrace the dated vibe. Think flares and a turtleneck or light wash jeans and a black tee, both with square or chisel toe boots.
You have to have swag to pull either off or else you’ll look like a dork.
Regardless, you will look like you sell cocaine and if people ask if you sell cocaine you cannot get offended by that
if people go up to you and ask if you sell cocaine youre pulling it off
if people look at you and start hiding behind solid objects then youre not
those are the two outcomes
I think you nailed it
Honestly I think I might have talked myself into wanting to try a leather blazer now
yeah this makes me wanna style mine td
I kind of dig the turtleneck look, and I don't think it holds a bad connotation here as much as it perhaps does in the States
I think you can keep it classy with high waisted pleated pants or the likes, casual loose fitting shirts and good jewelry
it's a blazer, style it like a blazer
shirt, trousers, shoes maybe
terrible terrible take
what do u mean 'take' they were photographed
man i already regret replying
It's perhaps a bit silly to compare a leather blazer to the likes of these. They are not in the same realm of items imo. It's like saying a leather handbag reminds you of their clothing that day just because it's leather
@Boyca here's the product listing for a similar style blazer from a brand I like, maybe it can give you some inspo https://www.richardsoderberg.com/product/instructor-leather-blazer/
Sick, I have a hidden love for steel toe capped boots too
wouldn't ever dare to wear them though 😅
This is a myth apparently
Why not?
Ill echo what other people have said, 70s is the way to go if you're going to, embrace your inner dirtbag
Not enough confidence for that, and I don't really have anything in my current wardrobe that would compliment that
oldish thread, but the row pulled it off like this
