Newly created Surface Scatter only scattering assets on slopes.
So, I just created a surface scatter (The first one in the scene) and added my landscape surface, but instead of spawning the assets all over, they're only spawning on sloped angles, nothing on the flat areas. All default settings. Angle Mask is at 90. Now when I adjust settings like the angle mask, Min/Max Height Masks, etc, they react. But it's almost like there's a setting telling it not to spawn on flat surfaces. Has anyone else had this issue before?

When I added a curve to the Object Masking, it worked as expected. 😕
Hey! @Ken
Very strange issue actually. Could you try another landscape that is non flat, maybe the default one in UE in a new level. Is it the same there?
Trying to figure out if it is only connected to that landscape you showed or not
I'll give it a shot
When you say it reacts when you increase the angle mask, do you mean it is fine then, you get scatter all over? Or it just reacts but don't solve it?
It just reacted and didn't solve anything. And when I hit the invert button, everything disappears. I tried increasing the angle mask to all kinds of numbers but with no results
Tested it in a new scene with a new landscape and it works perfectly now
Got it, thanks!
Interesting!
your problematic landscape, how was it created? Are you able to send it over so I can try on my PC?
I generated the landscape through a plugin called Landscaping Mapbox. The plugin allows me to use a GEO TIFF image to generate the landscape
Cool, no experience with that so can't try my self easily 😬
What I could suggest you could try though, is getting the 1.8 beta and see if it works better in there

And also you could try changing the density mode from relative to Global, that is more suited for bigger landscapes (not sure how big yours is)
With this mode, you probably need to increase density above 1
I'll run a few tests with the plugin in a new empty level. Try a few things out and see what results it gives me. I'll let ya know what I'm able to find out.
Sounds great!
@Ken, can you create a simple scene with just the landscape only and share it?
Sure thing! I'll get one put together today when I get some free time and post it up!
