trying to understand the frame rate drop when looking at cities from afar. what explains this best? Too much detail or light sources?

Have you tried other shaders?
What is your dh quality preset? From the photo it looks quite high
the city has too many hanging rooves and terraces for me to feel comfortable making further compromises there
this is how it is currently
and this is 1 quality preset lower
would you know the most fps friendly DH compatible shader?
for the record... Light emitting blocks are not the reason behind lag? Ask because I'd rather delete all light blocks than buy better PC
What kind of look are you going for?
No, light blocks don't matter
You could try something like make-up ultra fast
Or you could try simply upscaled
