Experiment Gone Wrong - Topic of the day 9/24/24
Was there a time you experimented with a piece or outfit and decided it wasn't for you or didn't work at all? Did you try again or did it confirm that it wasn't for you?

A lot of my fits from when I first joined the discord r swings and misses. I was making an effort to put on an outfit everyday tho so
god damn it you pre-empted my powerpuff girls post
what the fuck
What was the post kynnie baby
it was just gonna be the image in the OP
anyway
Same, I think I’m way less experimental now that I have a formula down
these pink shoes, these green pants, these red shoes i think all were failed attempts at integrating louder colors
im on my 3rd? pair of pink shoes rn and im still not sure i'm making it work
I’m sorry kyn but wtf are these
my dad is a big "mid fit with an ugly loud shoe" guy and i think i inherited that impulse
Ya I’m learning I don’t rlly like to play with color and that’s just fine
i tried wearing uhh whatever this is a few times. don't even remember where it's from, just remember thinking it was the coolest shit ever until i put it on
meanwhile my dumb ass just bought a new pink shoe
ocbd and sweatpants with the slim fit everlane sweats :xd:
everlane moment
We got there in the end
All black fit with a loud shoe still hits for me
working on it
This is sick tho like I see the first picture and knew u were going for this
two recent fits which i categorize as "this is a good idea that i proceeded to dump a bunch of extra shit on"
first one looks fine to me just don't love the matchy socks
I don’t own 90% of this anymore which is crazy. Some last ditch attempts at styling stuff I couldn’t bring myself to part with for whatever reason
Peepee poopoo fit
also a recurring motif with my less great fits i think
normie seth isn't real he can't hurt you
normie seth:
It’s the right thing to do to try at least
actually pretty good tho
These I hate less but it’s still too much shit and I’m trying sooo hard
lmao i like these 😭
First fit I would consider again
whole era was brick o clock
burberry plaid with the roty's lmfao
sign of the times
… I like the pink shoes
Everyone has to try to wear a hoodie under a blazer at some point
Lmao I’d take Seth’s bricks any day.
Guys I may have bad taste
Damn maybe Derek guy was right and heavier sport coats r better suited to casual wear :thinkbutt:
I tried so hard to make these joggers work before accepting that the skinny rick pant look just is not meant for me
They were so uncomfortable
nut huggers dayum
stanced mf
I think they look good it's just that cuff only works with certain shoes
some folks kill the rick jogger look but i'm still figuring it out too
i'm just done with skinny pants in general
never looking back
kinda fw 2 with a different shoe
Yeah I liked the kinda elderly element of the merrels I felt like a cool grandma but a sandal or hiking boot could be fun too I feel like
Clothes looking cool but not on you is such a learning curve
kinda messed up tbh
I've bought a lot of cool clothes without the wardrobe to support them. Like these noragis. I could make one work with my current style, but not these ones. Also this lovely Ann coat, tried it with full Uniqlo and it looked 💩 I'm a couple pieces away from a full Ann fit and then it'll be so much better
If I had to pick anything out of photos I have on my phone, it's looking back on this and wondering what I was thinking wearing jeans cut like that
Half of the posts in this thread
Yeah. Absolutely
Its like sneaks with a suit
Also sometimes things look cool but the timing is bad
I got into distressed denim during my quarantine buzzcut era
Is the poopy Ann coat fit in the room with us
I love sneakers with a suit tbh just not common projects with a skinny suit
Most everything else is fair game
i wanted to do rick rly badly but i ended up getting rick stuff that just didn't work with each other out of pure chance
i also tried styling the one-sleeve ann thing but the proportions weren't right
Im currently debating whether I should consider trying to make bootcut pants work a failed experiment or if I should double down on it.
Even if they happen to become fashionable again I just don't find them comfortable.
I think you could try out lower cuts and more distressed denim
*lower rise cuts
I def should work with more distressed stuff
But I actively hate the way lower rise stuff looks on me.
Hmm I think it is a prominent part of a lot of boot cut fits
That is propably part of the problem I guess.
sam i am sorry but you could style a trashbag and still look amazing
I recently sold my MM Tabi Boots
I really liked them and I liked wearing them
but they just werent versitile enough for my day to day wear
Maybe once I have a little more income for infrequent special pieces I'll pick them up again. Or maybe go for a cool variant like @bishopcorrigan 's sick paper ones
The only people I know who consistently and successfully wear tabis casually are @calla and gaudian who isn’t in here
It’s a high challenge footwear choice
it was fun and they are insanely comfortable
I might try out the loafers
I think I'm still trying to figure out my style/build a wardrobe that im fully happy with (impossible)
I feel like I have all the time in the world though so I'm not rushing into anything
I should be putting my energy into finishing my masters, not the intricacies of niche shoe designs lol
You have to figure out your style NOW
:nooooo:
i keep trying to make this top work but i think its just an awkward length, it could shorter or longer and it would be better either way
better with high waisted bottoms but still awkward
i havent given up on this one bcus i think these fits r cool but i have so much trouble styling this top
gonna give it another try this fall tho
I think the second fit gets really close to hitting
maybe a lighter color bottom?
lean into the light colors of the top
ya definitely! i think part of the trouble ive been having is that a lot of the light bottoms i have are mid to low rise
i like that top as is tbh
but i know what you mean and have felt similarly about some of my own stuff (wishing for a slightly diff length)
Tbh the boots are the only thing that feel out of place here
Those pants and tank are really good rick color
I do think I mostly redeemed them here so :nails:
Instead of learning from my mistakes I donated them and got an even higher difficulty pink shoe
Everything i wear is an experiment gone wrong i’ve just convinced you all its actually sick
For me... It's belted jackets. For a long time I was looking for a more stylish town version of my hiking jacket.
One thing that I loved the look of was the Barbour international trialmaster jackets.
And then I found one! That I could afford. And fit me!
I really liked the belt.
But... Hmmm. It just doesn't look as good if I do up the belt. So I usually leave the belt at home.
(I also like doing the throat latch, but it's a pain to undo without looking in the mirror.)
Do I suppose... Here is an expirement that doesn't work.
might be a rare case where i said a straight fit/less flared jean could work better
I hate that you are right
