On the quest for the perfect jacket (updating probably daily)
I'm currently looking for a couple nice second hand jackets for autumn, including a leather jacket.
I'm looking to share my online finds and get feedback on them π suggestions open too. Overthinking this a lot, I've been looking at jackets for like 3 weeks...
Jacket 1(leather) budget: 200β¬

Curious to see what you are looking for!
A first few options I've come across for jacket 2 while browsing
The Harrington's are baracuta, Carhartt is WIP
Looking for something in corduroy or plaid mostly, open to other materials too just no nylon or other smooth materials. Funky textures like mohair and fleece I'm cool with.
Cut: really open to anything as long as it's short and not technical.
Colors I'm looking for: no black, no super flashy colors. Something like a dark green or dark red would be great
I like the last one!
Jacket 1 (leather):
Looking for something black mostly, or brown (or dark greens)
Cut:
Vintage a2 (so cropped), other short aviators and bombers without the big pockets, really pretty much anything short.
One quite different model I've looked at and am seriously considering is the belstaff gangster jacket (yeah ouch that name...)
It has pretty cool pockets and a really nice looking waxed leather
A few examples of leather jackets I've looked at
Very different styles lol
Yeah it's cool
I need to ask for dimensions though as unlike the 2 others which are made in England this is made in eastern Europe so more recent
It seems like the body might be longer which wouldnt be great
Do you have any saved inspo fits of leather jackets you like? I've been struggling to see a theme in all the ones you've linked so far tbh π
Not of specific jackets necessarily, just outfit inspo
Sure I've saved some on insta hold on
The theme is cool leather jacket :gigachad:
I'd recommend honing in on a specific style or two of leather jacket. You're really all over the place with what you're looking for (fine and normal) and IMO it's hurting your ability to make a decision or effectively hunt down what you want.
There was a red leather jacket with a tiger on the back that i did not cop in a local vintage store a few months ago. Low key regret that now but it was $$$
Just took some random screenshots
Very much streetwear
To rock with a pair of jeans
If one ignores the one outlier with the white jacket these are more or less two different models
So there is that
The bottom middle of these looks like it would do what you want !
I really fuck with the white jacket's cut too tbh
Wouldnt litterally anything work for such a style
I'm torn between getting something that has visual interest or something more boring/plain like a black a2
cuz both look neat
like, something less bulky and with more details like this could be styled with baggy jeans just as well no?
(large pants as a whole, cords and pleated btw)
I think the thing with visual interest for a leather jacket is, it has to be done really well and is also totally subjective, just because there are a LOT of ugly leather jackets out there which try and do too much with the design
Personally I think the belstaff one is ugly but that might just be me haha
:p gotcha
yeah it's tricky
Maybe with a not-so-huge wardrobe like mine I'd be better off keeping the interesting piece be the inner layer and have something more simple as the outerwear as the one you pointed to
yeah idk
I have to admit that I feel like that specific cut works just as well in denim
The white jacket one i mean
Speaking of that white one, I saw this on Marrkt. Maybe a little out of budget with EU shipping, but it's cool https://www.marrkt.com/products/corduroy-zip-jacket-2
Marrkt
Corduroy Zip Jacket
Corduroy Zip Jacket by King & Tuckfield. Item has been dry cleaned.100% Cotton
that's true
I'm just scared of double denim
like, it looks good but I like having different textures on top and bottom
And yeah I like the white one's cut but I wouldnt get a white jacket it'd get so dirty
maybe in like corduroy or something else
:thinkies:
I'm gonna go sleep
I'll share more tomorrow hehe
ty guys π
Gl on your quest!!
I've never seen a Schott with such pocket and such lining
The patina is pretty dope isn't it
I have doubts it might be European because of that lining idk
I asked the guy for a pic of the made in USA tag, we shall see
:xd: supreme take notes
A couple more ideas for jacket #2
The second one is very french lol
(Also pretty cool!)
This is kinda cool too
Very different
Unusal for this closure to not be asymmetric. Pretty cool though.
Another option for jacket 2
I like the green color
It's not cropped but the elastic waist should make me able to wear it higher up
It fits a lot of your parameters
It does
It's almost new,
Does 90ish sound reasonable
That's like a 200β¬ jacket and not available anymore
It's Carhartt and we're in 2024 so there's def a bit of trend inflation in that
I would find 90 a bit steep. But im not that into carhartt pricing (is it the WIP or regular line?)
Wip
It's not vintage or anything so I do too feel like it might be a bit too much tbh
But Carhartt on vinted and eBay is very inflated
They have Detroits selling for hundreds and hundreds
It does not feel like a 90 euro jacket to me tbh.
True
It seems to be market rate
Yeah
It's funny that those 400-500β¬ baracutas are only like 60 bucks comparatively
The magic of the market. Also have you looked at secondhand vs retail on suit jackets lol :xd:
But yeah. I would find 50 an okay price for that kind of jacket. Then again, if you really like it what are 40 euros
I haven't but I'm assuming it's like ties
200+β¬ ties going for like 15β¬ at most
π
I got an 8k retail cashmere jacket for 10
Whoa
That was a lucky find tbh
On ebay they go for like 200-300
Was it thrifting or like from the owner themselves
Some rich people just don't care lol
Costume sale at the theater
Ah gotcha
Funny
Tipping my toes into secondhand makes me question the prices I was paying for fast fashion LMAO
Ill still buy some things new but damn
I think it really is a function of brand recognition. These ultra high end brands for suits are so niche that no one knows them
Yeah
And yeah I won't get the belstaff tbh
If anything I'll wait for one of their waxed canvas versions to show up in my size for 50 bucks
Fingers crossed!
Won't be too difficult there are a ton out there
Just none in good condition in S atm
Some for yeah like 20 bucks haha
Vinted is cool
Just sucks how many fakes they've got out there
All sneakers are pretty much a no go
Same with trendy accessories
Vinted is really neat.
Secondhand in general is really fun. I tend to have phases where I enjoy it and phases where I find it super annoying.
Really a mindset thing I feel
Yeah
It just feels much better to have clean clothes from their owners themselves instead of something smelly and dusty on racks/bins of a thrift shop
I was grossed out by second hand for the longest bcs of the latter
I personally don't mind. Thats what a dry cleaner is for. But i get that.
My issue is that the stuff im looking for is just not in thrifts in my area. Just not a super fashionable place
yeah the thrifts just suck here tbh
Found a few fashion mfs in my college year and they all agree
Overpriced cheap unwanted cuts
Often damaged
Being able to try stuff on in person is really neat though
There are a few cute concept stores but mostly women's stuff and not affordable either
At least they're cleaner
Yeah. Most of the good stuff gets picked clean
By like resellers
Yeah
Online I bother sellers with dimensions and compare with clothes I have
Measurements
Don't mind my french
Yeah. Me too. But sometimes I don't have a comparable piece
Don't worry
European Schott so not vry good quality but it's only 50 bucks and has a nice crop
Y/N
There are some pretty cool polo jackets around the same price point as the carhartt too tbh
You propably could find one of those in green for less than 90
My impression is that you are still slightly undecided/all over the place when it comes to leather jackets. I think this might be a good one to just wear and learn what you want from a leather jacket. Also EU schott might not be as great as us, but I don't think it will be utter garbage
That's what I'm thinking yeah
Too easy to go down the "only the best" route too fast
And buy an aero jacket :xd:
If i knew what I wanted I would do that. But when it comes to my own style im slightly clueless what leather jacket i would want/if i would want one.
The only-the-best-brainworm is so fucking stupid, lol. I have that too
It's dark brown but
120β¬ and
It's really cropped
More than any Schott I've ever seen
No size tag but it's short and that's cool
Cool enough to ask the seller for measurements
rlly cropped stuff is pretty cool!
Yeah they sent me measurements it's 47cm long which is the shortest I've ever had for a jacket
They're not home rn though I'm waiting for them to give me the sleeve length
47 is shorrrt. I think i had an ike jacket i needed to pass on in that length. Kinda requires dedicated pants, which is kinda fun
It is
Which is why I'm curious as to sleeve length lol if they're proportional this ain't gonna fit
I feel like it can work tbh would just look more "feminine" having a top that ends before the pants start but not necessarily a bad look
Most of my pants are already pretty high waisted so it's not like there'd be a big gap
Interesting patchwork look
Wouldn't stitching scraps together be more expensive than one piece of leather
π
Might just be embroidered actually
Interrupting your search with a jacket im considering getting for myself because yehaw train has no brakes.
Update the crop jacket sold
I just wait too long to decide i won't ever get anything
Oh that's so cool hell yeah
Id consider cowboy jackets if I wasn't wearing sneakers so much
If I worked for the idk 30 hrs I've spent looking for a jacket id have enough money to buy a brand new Schott π
This is getting tiring
I might just give up
jacket season will be over by the time I find something π
Just send it on something thatβs not
Crazy pricy to figure out what you really like/dont like about it then work from there
It do nothing idk your jacket
might just go ahead and do that tbh
I obsess over things way too much bahaha
(actually nvm thinking about it, the sleeves 100% wouldve been too short)
I know that feel
Also keep in mind that if you get a halfway decent price on a used jacket and realize that its not what you want you can propably just resell it for a similar price, so the amount of money you might "lose" might just be shipping + 10 or 20β¬
I think I bought & resold like 3 pairs of used cowboy boots this year, but in the end I maybe lost 30 or 40 euros but also gained a much closer understanding of what I like and how to size for certain brands, so i would not really consider that a loss
Deadstock 80s Schott, that's kinda crazy
It's a bit above my budget though
Went for it
Save on the non leather jacket, splurge on the schott?
If you like it
Thinking bout it
Something about the guys story doesn't add up I did an image search and it's identical to a model from another brand but has Schott tags
I'm investigating π
Hell yeah
Hyped to see it in waywt :))
Time to put on your sherlock holmes hat then!
Tags look legit
Is there a reference number
That's the only 2 tags shown,
Here's the description
Translated from french:
Rare model " Members only" Schott made in USA 1980s bought in 1982 in New York at Canal Jeans (which closed in 1989). Size 38 US black leather worn twice perfect condition no traces of use
Looking up members only it seems to be a jacket brand that was doing this exact shape
So I'm struggling to understand if this is Schott bootletting them or a collab or something
Usually thereβs a pocket tag with more info? But itβs not shown
I think
I'll ask
Ty
Or post on fedora lounge, that forum knows everything there is to know about old leather jackets
Gotcha thanks
There are forums for everything frfr
Although I'd be scared someone would find it and get it if it's indeed rare :xd:
Forums are such a treasure trove of obscure knowledge
yeah no this jacket sucked lol tbh
Turns out this one was available again, and they messed up the dimensions it's actually 10cm longer which makes it perfect
So I bought it :p
It's like 56 ish long with 61 long sleeves
It's a vintage children's size 16
Probably 90s
Nice. Looking forward to the fit!
This Carhartt model is so cool
Santa fe jacket
They're too expensive second hand for what they are though
I feel like you are not gonna get great value with Carhartt bc its currently very popular in the EU
Yeah
Honestly I'll just pass I think
On another hand
I was also looking for a nice denim jacket,
Was looking at wranglers but I've just seen this for 40β¬ and it's kinda dope
It's really cropped but the right sleeve length
Goes hard amiright
Patch pocket denim jacket is a cool vibe
40 also not that big
Do it
(You need to buy something eventually!)
@Nico do it
@Nico do it
Lol
Jokes aside, its a cool vibe
Yeah I just bought it
Girbaud is a good brand and I really fuck with the pockets and crop
Got some very high waist pants that should look great with it
Me discovering thrifting this month is kind of all over the place and silly thanks for putting up with my shit π
And fuck Carhartt, for a nice dark green zip up corduroy or canvas jacket I'll find something cooler
Nice, looking forward to seeing you wearing it
Also I get the hyperfixation. Happens to me as well.
I think I spent months looking at cowboy boots before i copped my black roughout ones. I literally ordered a US Shoe sizing device off of amazon to measure my feet (protip: shipping and returns are free so you can just measure your feet and return it lol)
damnn
I'm not down the boot rabbithole yet although it probably wont take long
:keepincool:
:xd:
Received both and they're great
The Girbaud jacket is outstanding
Sharing pics this week
:gigachad:
Nice!
