Problem with 120hz AMD GPU
Hello everyone. I bought an AMD card for the first time (7900 xtx) and installed bazzite for home theater to bring the Steamdeck experience to my gaming pc.
Now I have the following problem...
When I set 120hz, the picture starts to go black for a short time at irregular but frequent intervals (sometimes 1 second to 10 seconds). It flickers, so to speak. Can anyone help me?

That sounds like an issue with either VRR or with the HDMI bandwidth limit of HDMI 2.0
Try turning off VRR
try a different cable too, one that says “high speed ethernet” or just “high speed”, or if the packaging says that its rated for hdmi 2.1 or 8k 60fps
Thank you for the quick reply.
Before the AMD card, I had an Nvidia RTX 3080 and the NVIDIA Bazzite version. There 120hz and 4K worked.
It's not the cable. However, I have now found out that AMD does not have HDMI 2.1 under Linux. Then of course the 120hz did not work. As I have my PC connected to the TV, which only has HDMI, I now probably need an adapter from Display Port to HDMI. Then I have 4k and 120hz but unfortunately no VRR. Then I'll probably have to use V-Sync. Thanks for the answers, that has put me on the right track. 🙂
i play 4k 120fps on my 7900 xtx just fine, but no VRR, via HDMI to HDMI
although, i have my doubts it is using 4:4:4, it may be 4:2:2, games look okay, but something about how desktop mode looks seems off
like the image is too compressed, sadly i get the same issues you described when i use a dp to hdmi dongle, it works on a first boot, but get black screens on subsequent reboots
