Suit Fit Check + Gala Questions

Hey ya’ll, My work is making me attend a gala event to celebrate an anniversary for a well known charity. The dress code is semi-formal to formal, with a mixed demographic of ultra wealthy to middle class. Would this current suit configuration be appropriate for such an event? As it stands I don’t have much in terms of formal wear to play with. A lot of my clothes no longer fit me, as I haven’t had to wear formal clothing since pre-covid and I went from being obese to somewhat in shape again. For my work it’s very rare that I need to wear suits, as we mostly work on outdoor projects (experiential marketing). Currently I’m 235lbs at 6’2”, so a lot of off the rack options don’t fit me (I have really long arms) and I won’t have time to get any significant alterations done. I do however have a sewing machine for hemming etc. My budget currently is tight (car broke), and work won’t cover any clothing expenses, so very limited on any significant changes to the outfit. As back up options, I have an off white dress shirt (no texture or pattern), charcoal pants, and a matte charcoal blazer. I also have a handful of other ties. In terms of formality, I myself am attending the gala with my team. We will mostly be situated away from the main tables and at the control center for electronics most likely, as we are operating several projectors and light fixtures throughout the evening. Any fit feedback much appreciated!

I wouldn't wear this Black shirt is difficult to begin with. The jacket and pants are clashing in a bad way rather than a "mindful suit separates" way. Do you happen to have a full suit?

at a minimum i'd switch the shirt/tie for the off-white shirt/some other dark tie also when is the gala

I don’t have a full suit unfortunately, I’ll take a look at swapping the tie and shirt 2 weeks from now, I was last minute informed since I’ll be needed for technical help

i think darker pants would help as well in this case, regardless of which jacket you choose

Are the pants made of the same material as the 2nd jacket? either way the 2nd looks much much better

They’re very close, but they’re separates. The pants are a shade darker but the material texture is pretty much the same. Edit: nvm they are from the same suit. I thought I gutted them from another pair when I cleared out my non fitting ones years ago

Iron/steam the pants to get rid of the wrinkles and that shirt and tie work nicely. I'd go with black leather shoes if you have them as well

Yea for sure will get it pressed and ready for day of lol. I got some black minimalist leather loafers. Do you think the pants got the top of my feet right? I feel like they look a little baggy

They're probably a bit long but it's best to tell by wearing the shoes you're going to wear with the pants

Yea fair enough, I might hem them a little just to fit better. Appreciate the responses!

Also quick fix - button the top button of that jacket and leave the bottom one open

Yea the top button actually came off, so for sure will do that once it’s sewn back on lol
